Breeding racing pigeons successfully is not about what strain they are, where you get them , who you get them from , what the pigeons names are , how impressive their pedigrees look , how much you pay for them and then just crossing them randomly and subsequently relying heavily on luck , hope and chance to win . Breeding pigeons is about how you selectively breed a winning Family to perform and excel at the task you assign to them ,being One loft racing , combine r...acing or even exhibition , unfortunately only 1% of the fanciers fall in that category of the true meaning of " Pigeon breeder " . I bred over 50 National Champions in Canada and USA , exhibition and some racing and this does not happen by accident . I see the same people constantly buying year after year spending a fortune , do they fly any better the following season ? very rarely . Sure some get lucky occasionally but that is as far as it gets . After having great success and dominating at one point in One loft racing up to 2016 I was absent from the racing scene for a few years for one reason or another and was back flying One loft races with my own Family of birds in 2019, I fly in Canada only , have my reasons why ,good competition here , and shop local , lol etc. 2019 was a good year , entered 3 OL races was in the money 4 TIMES , in 2020 again flew in 3 races was in the money 7 TIMES , nicely in the black , not many can say that regardless how famous they are . I fly ONE team only ,except this year had two in the Salem Special OL race , friends wanted to get in the fun , unlike some that fly mega birds and spend 20 in entries to make 10 in prizes and then dwell on the 10 and think they did great . I am offering a few select birds in this auction , I will even pair them for you , keep them healthy and in good condition and they will breed you winners as birds in poor condition and IN POOR health will not breed anything worth sending to races , an ongoing issue in many lofts . Here we go , just thank me next year when you enter the winners circle . Good luck .

Closed vents , an other theory created by the Racing pigeon society , just a trait that is genetically inherited, put it in the same category as eyes , wing , color etc.etc. and have nothing to do with performance ability . For example , if you prefer closed vents and select your breeders accordingly , the young off them will have predominately the same physical characteristics , , same goes for eyes , wings, color etc to the point that if you create a homozygoes ( pure genes... ) strain all the offspring will have the same general features , peas in a pod , because that is what you are SELECTIVELY BREEDING for . I will give you an example , when I started racing in 2006 I acquired several birds from Terry Humberstone , Soontjens . One particular hen CU 1662 2005 TD , pinched face , deep , keel like a butter knife , long , non proportionate , definitely not closed vents and just plain ugly , today I would never use her, an obvious CULL , not knowing any better at the time this hen ended up being the best breeder I ever owned , every son she produced that I flew topped the combine at least once , one 5 times , 2 CU National champion , one missed it by one position , 17th place 16 lofts , Best bird in club , One loft winners up to 350 miles etc.etc . with several different mates , all her progeny were beautiful specimen , she did not show it but possessed all the desired genes, it just tells you what our grading means , nothing . Exception ?, sure but how many good birds did we ignore and not utilized and took full advantage during our lifetime because they did not have the features that we prefer . Ran across a real good one recently in a British group , they claimed , the white strip on the outer tail feather ( called the Albescent strip) is a sign of health and makes a good breeder, could not help it but lough . The albescent strip is a genetic sign indicating that the bird is not a Smoky , a modifier that will darken a birds base color and lighten up the skin and the beak , double dose of smokey will gives us slate ( Schalie ) , so it has nothing to do with health or breeding ability , but again the racing pigeon men made it a theory , lol . The moral of the story is that sometimes we are our worst enemies , the more we think we know the more we screw up , we end up neglecting and culling great pigeons because they dont have the feature that we like BUT POSSESS ALL THE REQUIRED GENES NECESSARY TO BREED OR BE CHAMPIONS . Something that we can not see and definitely can not GRADE See more
