Did you know that Salt Spring SAR's regular response area includes all of the Southern Gulf Islands? This past weekend we organised a Search & Rescue Exercise (...SAREX) on North Pender Island, integrating with Parks Canada Gulf Islands National Park Reserve staff in a simulated missing injured hiker scenario in the Mt. Menzies area. Excellent work by all involved in locating, stabilizing and safely evacuating the "injured" hiker through some challenging terrain. It is always a pleasure working with our highly trained partner agencies in the Southern Gulf Islands, practicing and learning together to improve our response capabilities. Special thanks to Southern Gulf Islands Emergency Program and Pender Island Fire Rescue for your hospitality, and Gulf Islands Water Taxi for the water transport. #sgi #sar, #bcsara, #GINPR, #ParksCanada, #SAREX

Congratulations to our Medic One crew on winning the trophy at the Sidney Boat Parade 2016! We are proud of the Medic One and Gulf Islands Water Taxi team long serving The Southern Gulf Islands as the waterborne patient transport with BC Ambulance Service. The vessel and crew operate 24/7/365 in all weather, to safely move patients along with paramedics between the islands and medical facilities on Vancouver Island. Well done!

It’s fall and school is on and that means that The Graduate is a familiar sight at Lyall Harbour on Saturna Island, as well as Port Washington on Pender Island. We are proud to serve the students, teachers, and families of School District 64 Southern Gulf Islands. Every school day, our Transport Canada certified vessels and crew bring nearly 100 Gulf Islanders between Salt Spring, Pender, Mayne, Galiano and Saturna. There is a new school boat schedule beginning Monday, October 11 and it can be seen on our website: http://gulfislandswatertaxi.com/ Here is a sunrise scene captured this morning by Jon Suk Photography

Chasing the sun Today’s rain over the islands is good to have for sure but feeling like that’s enough of Junuary. What do you think? Here is a picture from sunnier days aboard the Ganges Hawk. Like and share if you’re ready for the heat of summer. Bring it on! Photo by Jon Suk

We are a 24/7/365 operation. Our crews are often called upon to work through the night in all kinds of weather. It’s not always pretty, but this morningit was alright. Daybreak through the rain squalls over Saturna Island. Photo by Jon Suk

What a beautiful day for exploring! We brought almost 30 happy hikers of the Salt Spring Trail & Nature Club to this very special cove nestled into Prevost Island, one of the Southern Gulf Islands located between Salt Spring Island and Galiano Island, British Columbia. Mother Nature had the place in fine form for their hike today. Photo credit: Jon Suk
