In very public and high-pressure situations - such as Christmas dinner or at a fancy-dress up event - a child’s meltdown can stir up all sorts of emotions from ...deep inside of you. But before you react, take a pause and consider, Does my child really WANT to be demonstrating this behaviour? Why could he/she be feeling this way? Behaviour is communication. Size up the situation before coming alongside your child, and remember to keep compassion at the forefront of all of your interactions. Just as the season can be quite a lot for an adult, it is even more stimulating and exhausting for a little one with a developing brain. At this time of year, a little empathy goes a long way.
