This is a throw back, 50 years back, to 1970. Dad was interviewed for this article in the Windsor Star and the result is PURE 100% GUS . I'm sure the journalist, Eloise Wilkinson, must've been thrilled to have his perspective.
Here's Gus in '47 or '48, outside his high school, Walkerville Collegiate, playing a tune on a tennis racket. Classic.
Gus and his pipes
Happy Gus-day! Born on this day in 1929.
If it was one thing Gus loved, it was a good nap! "F.I.B. " he used to say - Flat Is Beautiful. A couple years before Jeanne and Gus sold their house in Windsor and moved to Stratford, I brought home two kittens for them. Soon named Rosebud and Pepper, they, of course, gravitated to the gentle old sage. When he would flake out on the family room floor for some quick, re-energizing shut-eye they naturally scrabbled up to his chest to each find their preferred napping-place. And, as they grew continued to find ways to keep close to their pack leader, Poppa Gus.
