This happened today at our house. I have never heard of mulch spontaneously combusting so thought I’d let everyone know. It was in our front garden against... lattice and with the high heat today and our glass railing it was the perfect environment. Thank God Craig was home. The fire department came to ensure fire was out. they said a garage burned down this week as they put mulch all around it. This is what it said on the internet Mulch that is piled too deeply, more than a few inches, can build up heat and spontaneously catch fire. Factors such as below-average rainfall, dry conditions, warm temperatures, and high winds increase the risk of mulch fires. Disposing cigarettes irresponsibly in and around mulch can cause it to catch fire. Who knew ! See more
