Mindfulness practice can be so beneficial to help with anxiety, depression, and well being. Even taking a few mindful moments each day can help.

It's #InternationalSelfCareDay! Given the challenges of this season of life, it's never been more important to prioritize healthy self-care actions. What is your favourite way to take and break and give back to your self? Thanks Mood Disorders Society of Canada for this helpful visual!

I have a new office in Comox! As of June 11, 2020 I am able to offer in-person appointments . I am pleased to continue to also offer secure video or phone sessions. Safety measures in-office include: only having one client in the office at a time, leaving time between appointments for cleaning/sanitizing, a hand sanitizer station, and we are able to maintain more than two metres/six feet physical distance easily in the spacious office. For appointments please go to my website www.georgettewhiteheadcounselling.com and click "book an appointment" or use the phone or email contact. Note that you can read my COVID 19 Safety Plan on the website.

A good small action during this time of COVID 19 From The Cognitive Behavioral Workbook for Depression by William J. Knaus, EdD (New Harbinger Press) At the end of each day, write down three things that happened for which you can be genuinely grateful. These can be tiny, almost insignificant events. For example, the sunrise, the sunset, the taste of honey, and the smell of baking bread may all be experiences that can evoke a sense of gratitude. Seeking experiences to feel grateful for can help counteract unhealthy, doomsday-type depressive thoughts.

Mental health professionals anticipate a spike in cases of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but are seeing cases of Pre-TSD right now in front-line health...care workers. Theres a surge that many had been anticipating, that hadnt quite hit us in Canada the same way that its hit in other jurisdictions like New York City and Italy. So theres this anticipatory anxiety, says Dr. Javeed Sukhera, the president of the Ontario Psychiatric Association.

Beginning yesterday, March 16th, I have cancelled all in-person counselling sessions for at least the next two weeks due to the Corona Virus situation. I respect that we all need to do our part to reduce this epidemic by staying home and that I work with many clients who live with chronic illnesses or compromised immune systems, so I want everyone to be safe. I am offering all of my clients and new clients sessions via online secure video or by phone. If you are a client of ...mine you have been sent an email explaining the options. Online or phone sessions will be at scheduled times. If you already have an appointment scheduled we can turn that into an online or phone session. I am very happy to provide this service to my existing clients and new clients during this stressful time. If you need to schedule a session please phone the office at 250-941-1555 or send me an email at [email protected]. Please dont send me messages for appointments through this page as I dont get notifications (for some reason, I havent figured out why). I want to encourage everyone to stay safe, to do whatever you can to reduce stressors, and to be kind to yourself!

Men take their own lives at three times the rate of women and they're much less likely to talk about their mental health struggles. The Heads Up Guys website is trying to reduce the stigma around reaching out to others..
