Piano factory/high end rebuilding shop quality work while camping! Today I will return the action to the piano and spend the day doing some fine regulation and voicing. Normally a piano like this would come to my shop for this kind of extensive work.... Moving costs to my shop alone would have been close to 3k, from this location, so instead I brought my shop to the client. Each hammer was carefully prepared to an exact gram weight to end up with the perfect touch! This involves boring the angles, cutting a cove, full side tapering and arcing the tails to within .10 of a gram. Typically, samples are sent away by a technician to a piano supply house for duplication. I like to do this myself, with the piano close at hand, so that I have control of all the variables. Our Business Update Re:Covid - 19 Since I returned from Boston on March 14th, Lynn and I made the decision to go into complete self-isolation for the recommended 14 day period. Since that date all appointments were cancelled to protect our valued clients and their families. We have no symptoms, but remain at home doing what we can to keep our immune systems strong. I am grateful for the 34 years I’ve been able to share my passion for piano and music-making and earn a livi...ng. Thank you to the many people who have supported our business since 1986! It is unclear how long we may need to remain closed and look forward to serving our clients again. When it is advisable to return to work , we will be following a strict protocol to ensure the safety of our clients in their homes. This John Broadwood and Sons piano, built in the 1800’s, has been in our piano hospital for the last 7 months for observation, research and testing. A treatment plan, driven by Restoration Conservation values, is now in place! Restoration Conservation simply means that we will be restoring the instrument to a previous state so that it is playable (in contrast to a museum artifact which would only be on display). However, in doing so, we will observe conservation principles so as to not diminish the role of this historic piano as a historic document. This is critical as we do not want to diminish the authentic and information-bearing evidence of its historical story.
