BC is planning to put a 15% tax on foreign buyers. It will interesting to see how this affects the average first time home buyer. My guess would be that it won't. The foreign buyers are typically buying houses in the high end of the market, a different market from the first time home buyers. Secondly, an extra $300,000 on a 2 million dollar house may not be enough to deter foreign buyers. What I suspect may happen is a softening of the high end market leading to a lowering ...of the average house price with no major impact on the price of properties targeted at the first time home buyer.
