The development of our clean energy plan is being led by the Haízaqv Climate Action Team with full support of Haízaqv Tribal Council. The team will create cl...imate solutions for and by Haízaqv people for the sustainability of future generations. Our aim is to eliminate our dependence on diesel, to assess our supply and demand within the Haízaqv community around energy and create clean energy projects that are focused on the needs and vision of the Haizaqv Nation. - Energy Champion Leona Humchitt and Team Member 'Qátuwas Brown The Haízaqv Climate Action Team is engaging residents to create a community energy plan grounded in Haízaqv community needs. The plan aims to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, bring the community back in-line with Haizaqv Gvi’ilas, improve health and safety and build a green economy. You can learn more about this project by visiting the Haízaqv Climate Action page and more about the Indigenous Off-Diesel Initiative by visiting: https://impact.canada.ca/en/challenges/off-diesel/champions #OffDiesel #ImpactCanada #IndigenousCleanEnergy

Our aim is to have 129 heat pumps installed by the end of March, making up nearly a third of homes in our community! As a team we are proud to share this information :) 'Qátuwas Brown, community engagement coordinator for the Haízaqv (Heiltsuk) Climate Action Team, says moving away from relying on diesel fuel, in particular, reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by five tonnes per household per year. It's also better aligned with her community's values and collective phil...osophy. "It's about connecting back to our ancestral ways, our original ways of being in relationship with Earth and with one another. And using renewable energy is actually a way to honour that relationship," she said. "We want to give back to our place as much as we take from it."
