This is Mavis. She is 1 year old and Wednesday was her FIRST haircut! We briefly met for the first time a couple months ago and you can see in the first picture, the uncertainty in her tiny face. Within MINUTES, she was whining, pulling at her cape and saying "no, no, no"! It is important to make children feel comfortable right away to assure safety during the service. My trick is to laugh and distract them from what is causing the behavior. In this case, I asked gram...ma to step outside just for a quick second - guess what, it worked! Sometimes, being left alone with a child creates instant trust. In the second picture, I had to get behind the head and make sure the haircut was properly done. Having a child stand creates stability and helps the stylist get the work done correctly, but can still be a challenge from the child moving their head around My trick here was to try and have her look at her pretty brown eyes in the mirror . . . comparing them to mine being blue. (See how I distracted her again, by also keeping the trust we built at the beginning?) You can still see how she is unsure of what is about to happen next, but the trust is there. The last picture is my favorite because the trust was at a deep level here! Most of the haircut was done on the floor, but sometimes, it's easier to get down, than to climb up. The reward in the end, is just as priceless as the look in her eyes. #firsthaircut #gottalovekids #admyreshairsalon
