Hey guys! It’s been ages since my last post, but finally some new content! I took a bit of a social media break this summer for a few reasons. Our salon had followed a strict no blow drying rule the last few months following covid protocols. We’ve been able to loosen them up a bit this week and allow drying for larger colour services. So I’m over joyed to be able to start offering the full service followed by my mini shoots after! An oldie but a goodie. I can’t wait to be able to take photos of hair again. Real talk for a minute. Being back in the salon has been great the last few days. Life starts to feel like it’s almost back to normal. Seeing co workers and clients, driving to and from work, traffic seems to be picking up, stores are busy again.. but then it hits me that it’s not. I had a hard time yesterday feeling all the feels about the fact that there really isn’t anything (events, festivals...) to look forward to this summer, and potentially next summer. Anyone they knows me knows that I’m huuuge into festivals and travelling during the summer. It’s easy to let my mind go down a path once I start thinking of all these things, it’s kind of a negative trap. I told my boyfriend how I was feeling down about it all, and we discussed a bit about smaller things we could plan to have something to look forward to, which definitely helped.. Sooo here’s a little list we made: Projector movie night in the back yard. Biking and a picnic. Getting the van out and camping at West Hawk or Beconia Beach. Trying a new activity like golf or tennis. BBQ or potlucks with friends when it’s fine to! River tubing (and maybe more camping!). What’s everyone else’s summer pandemic plans? My post quarantine back to work safety fashion look this morning. My first shift back was a success! It was an 8am shift today, which will take some getting used to, as I got waaay too used to sleeping in this past month and a half. We are only able to work 6 hour shifts at this time with new protocols. I have a few evenings coming up, but I must say it’s kind of nice being off by 2pm when working mornings! I haven’t had time to do my roots or take my extensions out for... 3 months, so as we speak I’m taking these babies out tonight (and crying a bit). Hopefully I can slap some root colour on at home and look a little better for tomorrow’s 8am shift . I must say though, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to not being able to blow dry... I did a gorgeous smokey lilac on my client today that I would have diedddd to do a mini photo session of styled.. I’m going to really miss posting new content (besides my pasty face). I’ll be back at work as of May 6th. Please read this important information on our new protocols before booking with me. Things are going to be different for sure but we want to make sure we cover all bases with safety standards during this uncertain time. All staff and clients will be wearing masks, if you do not have one you can purchase one for $5. Until further notified we will not be able to blow dry during our services, so they will feel a bit different and run a bit... shorter. This is a huge one for me as I prefer to be able to dry cut or check colour/highlights when dry but we are going to make it work! Plus it means I won’t be able to do my small photoshoots after our service (which I’m super sad about!), so please bare with me, and if any of my clients could send me some great selfies or photos of your hair from home, I’ll love ya forever! My hours are a little different now, cut down to 6 hour shifts instead of my 10 hour availability in the past.. So for the time being I’d appreciate if my clients could DM me for bookings rather than online booking, because services are going to run a little different and I want to be able to fit you all in while I have this shortened availability. It’s taken me a few weeks but I’ve finally uploaded the last few client shoots from my camera from before we closed the salon, and started sorting and editing them today. It’s taken me a bit to get there, as I’ve been grieving the lifestyle and work routine I had before all of this (as I know most everyone is too). I had this huge list of productive things I can do during quarantine, but felt too anxious and depressed to start anything. I realized I had to give myself a bit o...f a break and not come down so hard on myself, as it’s a huge expectation to suddenly switch gears during this all. Hey guys, it’s my face. I was going to post this photo a while ago starting with something about thanking any new followers and a small introduction about me... but the entire world just shifted and we are now in a much different place. So here’s my face anyway and a bit of a real talk post: As I’m sure many of you saw in my story, @theloftwinnipeg is closed until further notice because of covid-19. I’ve been slowing coming to grips with this new life over the past... few days, as this may turn into months. Honestly the past few days I’ve nursed this new reality with booze and junk food. Buuut it’s Monday now, I forced myself out on a small run, and I’m currently drinking a smoothie (small victories), but I’m not going to lie I’ll probably have some wine later . I’ve taken a bit of a break from posting at this time as I haven’t felt up to it yet during all of this. I have lots of photos backlogged, and I’ll be slowly uploading them once I feel a little more settled into this weird new lifestyle.. in the meantime, if you want to follow my personal account, I’ve been posting more stories of my day to day life to stay in touch @brittanydonalyn.
