I’m in lilac heaven I will be a fan of demi permanent pastels for ever !!! The question is always : demi or semi ? Here’s my breakdown for choosing what when : ... Demi - soft , more ‘natural’ look , fades quickly ,but with beautiful blonde results ! Can be applied over level 9 or 10 pre lightened hair , easily at the sink or station for as little as 5 mins ! I used @oligopro #caluragloss 9/66 7/66 9/11 and clear to make this soft smoky lilac ! Semi - more ‘vivid’ looking pastels , tones tend to last longer , can fade unevenly (depending on porosity of hair ) has to be neutralized or lifted out after at next appt (not always !) processes on dry hair and for 20 mins min usually - don’t get me wrong ; I love using #funkhue from #oligopro to make pastels , but on the guests who want that tone to last .... who love vivids when they fade , who want a brighter looking tone I like to add @brazilianbondbuilder #b3 in my demis and semis to seal in and protect that fresh color and the integrity of the hair after lightening ! Who doesn’t love pink ? Semi or Demi ? How do you make your pastels ? ... Did you know layering pastel tones can give you a multi dimensional look and longer lasting pastel hues ???!! Hand painted Favourite clay lightener ?? Mixing ratio ? Open air or covered up ? What developer ? BUT WILL IT LIFT ???!!!! ... So many questions with so much grey area around it ! So here’s my breakdown for real,hand painted,free hand balayage : 1) I use @oligopro Clay lightener with 30 or 40 vol on levels 2-7 ; 10 or 20 vol on levels 8-10 2) mixing ratio 1:1 1/2 consistency of creamy toothpaste : not too thick or it won’t blend 3) I cover with hair film if it’s on levels 6-8 , foils on levels 2-6 , open air on blonde levels 9/10 Covering will help keep warm and from drying out too soon and from transfer , TIP : make sure not to fold,wrap or squeeze your foils or film at all !! 4) clay lifts slowly so it doesn’t lift like regular lightener : she needs time to work ! So be patient , book extra time in your appt for at least an hour processing 5) proper brushes for painting ! I like stiff,short bristles to keep the clay where I put it , then blend with my hands or a softer bristle brush @colortrak makes a brush that you can switch the heads on it for both ! Genius ! 6)Glossing the hair after will seal down cuticle and maximize your dimension !
