Our first MSc WIM feature is @nicbarnownow! Let’s get to know Nicole a little better! Hometown: Holland Landing ... Undergrad: BA in Kinesiology with a Specialization in Sport Management, Western University MSc Stream: IB with CEMS Why did you choose Ivey? I wanted to meet new people who shared the same interests as me. I wanted to be in London as I loved the Western community, and I really enjoy learning with the case-based method. What’s a hobby of yours? I like to exercise a lot, so I spend a lot of my time either cycling or weight lifting. I used to row for the Western Varsity rowing team for three years before starting Ivey. I would spend around 15-20 hours a week exercising. I try to keep this up. What does it mean to you to be a woman at Ivey? I see it as an opportunity to learn from other amazing women in the program. There are so many other women who are so supportive and willing to see others succeed, which helps me, especially in times when I feel unmotivated. Anything else you’d like to share? I have a business called Hairstrong (@hairstrongband), which aims to empower women to live and move how they want without being frustrated by their hair. With that being said, we’ve created an adjustable scrunchie that each user can customize to their own perfect fit so that their hair doesn’t come out of place or get damaged. SAVE THIS for later! What makes you confident? A lot people think it’s attributed to a certain look or accomplishing goals but in reality, it’s all about your mind set of how you view yourself. We’ve done some research and found some effective ways to start feeling great today! Here are 3 little tricks you can start implementing:... 1. Think back to a time where you felt GREAT. Remember that energy? Use that mindset again and take advantage of that feeling 2. Don’t talk negatively about yourself! As soon as you get a negative thought, counteract it with a positive one. For example, change a statement like I suck at this exercise to I’m not good yet but practicing helps me getter better. 3. Stop complaining. There are so many things out of your control, stop making blanket statements that won’t change anything like It’s so hot out; Acknowledge it, deal with it, and move on. Stop complaining about the things you can change. Instead of saying I have no motivation change the perspective to why do I have no motivation What can you do to solve that instead? Hairstrong helps you feel good because it’s a product that FITS YOU. Your hair is great and you don’t need an elastic that slips and falls out and you blame the product or worse, you blame your hair.
