Haitian Children's Aid Society

We are saddened to share that the founder of Haiti Children’s Home (HCH), Patricia Louise Smith(know as Grandma Pat/Sè Smith to most of us), has recently passed... away into glory. Haiti Children’s Home exists because of the sacrifice and determination of this brave, witty, and loving woman, who spent her life in Haiti fighting to give Haitian children life and love. It is impossible to count the many, many lives she changed in the 28 years she served the Haitian people, nor how many times God used her hands to save lives that have grown to bring glory to His name. The HCH community both in Haiti and worldwide have many testimonies of Grandma Pat’s part in their life story, many who fondly remember her practical jokes, love of Coca-Cola, and her rocking endless babies in her favorite chair. She is also remembered for her Scrabble skills, love of sweets, and her ability to survive on little to no sleep. A common memory shared is how she was never afraid to take on the care of the most fragile child and how she would bloom right along with the child who thrived in her care. It is a comfort to know that Grandma Pat is with her Savior, surrounded by the many children who she cared for that God chose to take to heaven ahead of her to prepare a special place just for her. Amazing update from HCH!!

Despite taking extra long in customs, our summer school program materials have arrived! Thanks to all of you who supported our school sponsors...hips this year, which have allowed us to keep on learning despite only being in ‘normal’ school for 36 days this ENTIRE school year! 4 months of rioting in Haiti, followed by COVID-19, certainly were not what we anticipated for the school year. It’s been a learning curve for everyone, but we have all kinds of new knowledge flying around! See more
