The new bridge is finished. Thank you West Hants Parks and Rec and West Hants Regional Municipality! #windsorns #westhants #annapolisvalley
Did you know the trails on the Haliburton House grounds are part of the community trail network? They were installed and are maintained through a partnership between West Hants Regional Municipality and the Nova Scotia Museum. West Hants Parks and Rec are replacing the bridge near the orchard. Please use caution and stay off the new bridge until work is complete. #teamwork #annapolisvalley #windsorns #westhants
Sometimes historic houses are monuments to exceptional craftspeople, and sometime they show that even they had days where they said 'Eh, close enough, get the saw.' #whyilovemuseums #museum #annapolisvalley
The owner of this book must have been very lucky, we found multiple four leaf clovers between the pages. Although not good for books to add wet plant material it is charming to find these mementos from past readers. This copy of the History of the Townships of Dartmouth, Preston and Lawrencetown from 1883 is holding up well. This oil portrait of Lady Marianna Haliburton is receiving conservation treatment while the museum is closed for the winter. Over many years the canvas has pulled apart at the edge of the stretcher resulting in draws (waves) most visible in the top left. If left untreated the paint would eventually crack and deteriorate. The portrait has been removed from its frame and will be stretched and reattached. A new UV resistant glazing will also be installed to protect from fading. Lady Marianna Haliburton was the wife of the youngest son of Judge Haliburton, Baron Arthur Lawrence Haliburton.
Before and after photos of a sampler from the Haliburton House collection recently returned from conservation treatment. The work was done by Nova Scotia Museum Conservation Intern Kristen Fader. The sampler was mechanically cleaned by hand after which it was replaced into its frame with new glazing and archival materials. #museum #history #museumwork #sampler #antiquesampler
