TD HJF JAM 2021: A Historic Glimpse of Women & The Guitar with Sam Wilson

Halifax Jazz Festival 21.04.2021

It’s Jazz Appreciation Month and over the next few weeks, we’re taking a look at a few of Canada’s influential jazz musicians. Kirk MacDonald Jazz Saxophonist For close to three decades, Kirk MacDonald has established himself as one of Canada’s leading saxophonists. A leader in his field of performance, composition and education, Kirk has contributed countless performances on recordings, both as a leader and with other artists. A multiple Juno award winner, Kirk has per...formed with the likes of Claude Ranger, Kurt Elling, Rosemary Clooney and MANY others. MacDonald’s latest recording 'Generations', brings him back full circle to his roots in a program of jazz standards and the Great American Songbook. 'Generations' features three generations of musicians: the legendary pianist Harold Mabern at age 82 and MacDonald’s wonderfully talented daughter Virginia MacDonald, at age 23, on clarinet. Kirk MacDonald is presently a full time professor at Humber College in Toronto, where he undoubtedly inspires a new generation of musicians to pursue careers in music and explore the boundaries of Jazz.
