Today is Heritage Day. My ancestry has a direct line to Scotland when five generations ago they immigrated to Cape Breton. This is a picture of my father cutting and hauling timber on Mabou Ridge in the 1930's. Love to hear your heritage story?

Happy New Year to all. It has been a challenging year and I know most will be glad to say good-by to it. But as the year ends I look back on it and realize as challenging as it was, I have so much to be thankful for. For the love and support of my family, my friends, for the many clients who have put their faith in me this year to sell or buy a new home in an absolutely crazy market, and for good health. I have learned many lessons through COVID especially the importance of slowing down, as forced too and doing things that I always planned too but never seemed to have time. It may have been a wild year, but for many reasons I feel blessed. Make it a fun one in your bubble tonight as we say good bye to 2020. I plan too.

Just a little post on lighting. It is amazing to see the change in the style of lighting fixtures in homes over the last 3 years. An investment of a new light in a room can make a dramatic change to the overall feel of the room. Lights are certainly making a statement now. Here are examples of some I have noticed in listings of homes in the Halifax area.

The prediction made some months ago that the Halifax market would reach a 10% growth over last year has happened this week. The stats tell the story.

A friend is having her white cabinets repainted the last couple of days and it made me consider the many homes I see on a weekly basis. The era of homes 30-40 years old are often equipped with solid oak cabinets. It is always a little sad to see solid wood taken out for melamine or painted, but there are options. This picture depicts the possibility of combining, new with keeping wood on the bottom, perhaps with new hardware added as well. They tied it all together with the white counter and with the wood floating shelves. I think this is beautiful and it works.

I cooked a fish pie, biscuits, cookies, gazpacho, 2 lbs of bacon, and a dozen eggs. I'd say this is pretty accurate!
