What a fantastic end to our weekend exercises for this training year. Rifles Cadets were fortunate to make a return to McNabs Island thanks to the support of the regional training unit (who provided zodiacs to get us to the island)! We had significantly less rain than last year and even spent some time soaking up the sun after a long winter. This was, of course, in addition to some training exercises. ... A few more training nights to go until summer vacation, but we know that this summer we’ll be thinking back to wonderful weekends like this CEDE NULLIS

In case you didn’t know, our 50th anniversary ACR is tomorrow! We’ve been busy preparing over the past few months and are looking forward to showing you what the cadets have been up to this year. Parents and guests should arrive at 1830 (or before for better seats/parking). Markers will be called at 1850 and the parade starts at 1900. ... See you there! CEDE NULLIS

Recently our band participated in the local band competition in Shearwater. You may not have realized we had a band, and that’s because up until very recently - we didn’t! Our new band had a great time playing in their first performance and watching more experienced bands put on a show. ... We’re looking forward to hearing what they get up to next CEDE NULLIS

Last weekend cadets completed a survival challenge! They were equipped with a sleeping bag, an air mattress, a ground sheet and some rations. Every few hours they reported to a location given to them as a grid reference and completed challenges to earn points. Challenges included an obstacle course, night navigation exercise and stretcher carry to name a few. ... Congratulations to the following teams who earned the most points throughout the weekend. First - SGT LaPierre and MCPL Mitsiopulous Second - CPL Regan and TPR Alexander Third - MCPL Wrightly and TPR Smith CEDE NULLIS!

It’s been a long time since you’ve heard from us- we’ve just been so busy lately that it’s hard to keep up! We had Sensei Crawford from Bedford West Shotokan Karate visit us again to give an introduction to karate to all of our cadets. Two of our cadets, MCPL Robson and MCPL Briand competed at Biathlon Nationals and performed excellently. We had a winter field training exercise in Aldershot where the cadets withstood the elements and slept out overnight in -16 weather! ... Meanwhile SGT Lindsey, SGT Burchill, MCPL Briand, MCPL Mitsiopulous and TPR Robertson competed at Marksmanship zones and did incredibly well. SGT Burchill then went to Trenton, Ontario for pre-para in hope of qualifying for the Basic Parachutist Course (still waiting on results). Shortly after, former Civilian Volunteer J. Mitsioploulos was sworn in as an Officer Cadet in the Canadian Armed Forces Cadet Instructor Cadre. Finally, RSM Chenell, SGT Clarke, SGT Cooke, MCPL MacLennan and MCPL Masuda volunteered out at the Halifax Rifles Annual Regimental Ball. We also have lots of exciting things planned for the upcoming months that we can’t wait to show you! CEDE NULLIS

Congratulations to the Halifax Rifles 2019 Provincial Biathlon Team! What an incredible weekend of skiing and marksmanship in Brookvale, PEI. Our cadets performed outstandingly with;... MCPL Robson placing first in junior girls. MCPL Robson and MCPL Briand placing first in junior boy/junior mixed category. CPL Mitsiopulous and CPL Wrightly placing second in junior boy/junior mixed category. The weather was harsh but morale remained at a constant high! Well done Rifles on your remarkable achievement. It is also worth recognizing that C/SGT Cavero volunteered his weekend to support the athletes and adult coach. Without his assistance the weekend would have been much more challenging. Thank you SGT Cavero. CEDE NULLIS!

First they ran, then they ice skated, then they roller skied, and now they are proficient cross country skate skiers. After months of training our provincial biathlon team is ready to compete for a spot at nationals this weekend. Regardless of the results we are incredible proud of the commitment and dedication that these cadets have demonstrated over the past several months. ... Please join us in congratulating the team and wishing them all the best. CEDE NULLIS!
