A brilliant alternate to a traditional dining set, breakfast nooks are clever for all sorts of reasons: 1) Maximize space by utilizing all the square footage, straight back to the walls 2) Benches in lieu of chairs offer more seating AND tons of storage!... 3) Embrace different textures and textiles, in an otherwise utilitarian room of the house 4) Encourages a more casual atmosphere to gather & entertain, versus a stuffy dining set 5) An invitation to employ eclectic pieces to create a more personalized space. Mix & matching never looked so good, from tables, to chairs, to artwork!

Art doesn't belong solely on the walls, and what better way to showcase your most prized pieces than putting them on a pedestal...literally!

What We Like: 1) Green avacado colour - The plush velvet sofa is covered in a colour that appears timeless but also playful 2) Built In - The horizontal striped wood bookcases, flanking the fireplace add depth, texture and warmth needed in this entirely white space 3) The Lighting - The sporadic & modern fixture hung from the ceiling feels more like an art installation. It's a perfect juxtaposition to the traditional elements of the architecture ... What We Don't Like: 1) The Minimal Coffee Table - The simplicity of the minimal, skinny coffee table feels like a cheap Scandinavian flat-pack item 2) The Area Rug - It already feels dated! A very common and tired geometric carpet might have once been a designer pick, but may be the one element that dates the space to a certain point in time 3) Artwork - While the flanking bookcases beside the fireplace wall is a focal feature, the artwork feels underwhelming in comparison. What We Like: 1) Furniture Placement - The diagonally positioned furniture feels effortless in this square room, especially against the heavy bookcase wall that anchors all the floating pieces 2) Layered Rugs - The asymmetric and layered rugs work in perfect harmony with the offset furniture placement to create an inviting space. ... 3) Eclectic Style - Animal prints & mid-century modern tables are seemingly seamless in this one room. What We Don't Like: 1) Excessive Clutter - While the leaning artwork attempts to leave an impression of a lived-in home, the lack of any cleared surface space pushes the naturally informal eclectic style from casual to messy. 2) Lack of Lighting - Between the heavy armoire & chunky couch, the floors have a lot going on. I can't help but notice that an oversized fixture would have been the perfect cherry on top of this space 3) Uncomfortable Seating - While I adore the idea of the Louis chairs, one larger, comfier option would have leaned on the side of an inviting boho style rather than a cold one.

What We Like: 1) Colour! - An appropriate mix of muted & vibrant colours that lends to both the playfulness for adults & children alike 2) Pattern - The choice of patterns support the retro vibe and encourages the use of the playful colours... 3) The Right Wood - The striped, teak coloured wood used consistently throughout is one material ideal as an anchor to the playful patterns & colours. We Don't Like: 1) The Exterior - It doesn't do the justice for inside! You would never know by the outside, that there's a fun, colourful retro inspired home inside. 2) Lighting - I can't imagine this home would look as spectacular in the evening after dark without purposeful recessed lighting. One overhead light per room would not be sufficient for me 3) Depth - The lack of heavier or darker features makes it feel like some spaces are too airy-fairy What do you like or not like about this family home?

The large back plate, the proportionate swoop of the glass and the substantial swooping curved hanger are the details of this exterior light fixture that set it apart from the rest of the homes on the street. The black metal melting in the modern gray brick sets a timeless tone. @ #exteriorlights #timelessdecor #gobigorgohome

What We Like: 1) Absolutely in love with the blonde wood cabinets and it looks even better when paired with a warm calcutta marble 2) Those knockers! - The lionhead knockers are small details with big impact on the overall look of the kitchen ... 3) Baseboards - The marble baseboard along the island creates a high-end, custom look What We Don't Like: 1) Glass Shelves - The glass shelves fitted between the gold pipe hardware feels like a pairing from out of an 80's yacht 2) Island Chairs - Much like the glass shelves, the choice of chair style is more reminiscent of 80's furniture, not a style we particularly need to embrace again ... 3) The Remaining Walls - The remaining walls, and even the artwork, feel lacklustre next to strength of the solid wood cabinets & millwork What do you like OR not like about this kitchen?
