Sometimes you get to make a knife for someone who truly inspires you. @runs_with_deer is a dear friend, awesome mom, entrepreneur, and all-around badass. Knowing that this knife will be used to harvest and process plants and turn them into medicines that my family and so many others in our community rely on to stay healthy, brings me joy. Check out her apothecary shop. Right now! DO IT NOW!... And if you’re wondering what’s up with the elephant, it belongs to Nat. It broke so I Kintsugi-style glued it up for her with some gold epoxy. @ Goderich, Ontario
Last build of the yearalmost the first build of next year! Grateful for all the patience and support. #bushcraft #bushcraftknife #scoutcarry #oakburl #customknife #madeinhuroncounty

This is my new harpoon clip EDC model. It still needs a name. Drop your suggestions in the comments. Thanks! Filework inspired by Dusty Moulton’s ‘Raptor’, from the book, 500 Knives. Thank you to @ryan_sommers_ for gifting me the book! 440 C, tapered tang, black G10, red vulcanized paper liners, Imperial Black Onyx epoxy fill, and stainless pins.... : @jonathanedwardgemmell #knifemaking #knifemaker #customknife #edcknife #edc #edccommunity #filework #madeinhuroncounty
When your customer tells you their favourite colour is camouflage, you oblige. ‘Saratoga’ in 440 C, Camo Dymalux, Blaze Orange G10 liners, and stainless pins. Camo Dymalux textured on my grinder’s small wheel attachment. Very happy with the look and feel. Will definitely be revisiting this finish.... Happy hunting! : @jonathanedwardgemmell
A few more detail shots. Filework inspired by the great and powerful @joshscottknives’ filework on his ARROWHEAD knives. Bow made by @saratoga_traditional_archery.... Arrows made by @stumpstalker. : @jonathanedwardgemmell Thanks for looking.
‘Saratoga’ created in collaboration with @saratoga_traditional_archery. Max is an incredible craftsman, father, hunter, and conservationist. Count myself lucky to know such and inspiring dude. 440 C. My wife has a green thumb and keeps a beautiful garden. She grows veggies and herbs, and makes preseveres and medicines to feed and care for our family. She works hard and is the backbone of our home. Thank you.
Wood is traditional for a 5th anniversary so I made a little gardener’s knife with a cocobolo handle for my wife. Hopefully she’ll stop using the skinning knife I gave her as a wedding gift in the dang garden! #knifemaking #knifemaker #customknife #gardeningknife #skinningknife #madeinhuroncounty
A handle detail from that last hunter. 440 C, tapered tang, Bocote, Forrest Green G10 and copper liners. #knifemaking #knifemaker #customknife #huntingknife #madeinhuroncounty
It ain’t all lightning bolts and high-fives. I made a knife for someone a while back that developed some ribboning along the cutting edge after fleshing out a deer. I remade the knife from thicker stock (3/16almost all my knives are made from 1/8) and gave it a more robust geometry. Thank you for being so awesome and patient. You know who you are. Drop-point hunter in 440C, Bocote, copper pins, Forrest Green G10 and copper liners.... #gettingbetter #knifemaking #knifemaker #customknife #huntingknife #madeinhuroncounty

I spend a lot of time finishing each of my knives by hand. Nothing against machine finishes, I just prefer the look of a horizontal scratch pattern. I like how a hand-rubbed satin finish follows the lines and directionality of a blade. I’ve used a lot of different abrasives but Klingspor is my favourite. It lasts a long time and gets me the finish I’m looking for. Swipe to see my full handsanding progression.... #wip #handsanding #satinfinish #klingspor #knifecommunitiy #knifemaking #knifemaker #knifenut #handmade #madeinhuroncounty @ Goderich, Ontario

Back to the basics. This knife was giving me fritz so instead of doing my finish grinding on the machine I cut the plunges and filed the flats the way I was taught. Means a lot more handsanding in my future. Send coffee. . . . #byanymeansnecessary #wip #handfiled

Pro Conventional Knife prize for the League of Edges Online Challenge. Although we can’t all be together for the IKTHOF Worlds this year, I was honoured with keeping up the tradition of making a prize for the online challenge. Glue ups stress me out, especially on filework. I get everything dry fit and squared away first to make them go as smoothly as possible.

We are happy to announce that Hamelin Knives is expecting an intern!
We've set up a new Instagram account that will feature our knife work only. Follow if you want to get the point of what we are doing .
Reminder that there is only one Makers Market left before Christmas. We haven't been able to attend the last couple and will be missing this one but I encourage you to go check out all of the rad stuff there. We've been a little quiet lately because we've got so many knife orders to complete. Although we'd love to be at the market we can't deny that this is an awesome reason to be so busy. Happy holidays!
Building a website is hard. There are so many little things you need to know that I do not yet. I've been trying to figure out how to get things up in our shop for a couple of weeks now and am hitting quite a few road blocks. However, a few of you have expressed interest in some of the items we make and with Christmas coming up I want to make sure they are available for purchase. I am not happy with my digital photography yet, so please don't judge! And I can't really figure... out how to get the check out working. If you want something please email us or message us on here or Instagram @lauriejanay and @cbhamelin. We can accept e-transfers in the mean time and cash if you live near us. https://www.hamelinknives.com/ Thanks for the support everyone <3.
Find us here tomorrow!
Chris's newest knife on the left and my first ever knife on the right. We finished these last week. Chris's will be available for purchase at the Goderich Maker's Market this Saturday. I haven't decided if I want to sell mine yet.
So many things on the go but we have to be patient and let the glue set for 24 hours. This is why we usually have so many projects happening at once. If you can't move forward on one then start another!
Working on some kid's knives while the hatchets dry. I love the wood we chose to use for the handles.
Glueing up the handles for some hatchet charms.
So excited to be a part of this.
We have a table at this event. Our first time at a market! If you're in the Exeter area come say hello!
The contact form on our website has been fixed. This weekend I'm planning to build a light box so we can take some proper photos of the products we've been making. In the meantime, here's a picture of our dog Ducky doing her favourite activity in the workshop. #duckbutt
Our table at the market has been confirmed. The first date we will be at the museum is November 12. We are so excited and hope to see you all there. Even if not for shopping, to take a gander at the two headed calf and say hello.
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen this hatchet charm I made from scrap pieces of steel and leather. I'll have more available for sale soon. We are hoping to have a table this winter with Goderich Makers Market, Mercantile & Creative Space so you should be able to buy them there and online.
