Timeshare Presentations- know your rights There are many tactics that may be used by timeshare properties during their presentations. Our clients have described encountering the following tactics while in a presentation: Personal Stories... The salesman may try to relate personally, explaining that the prospective timeshare buyer looks like a friend of theirs or how they have experienced a similar life event. Alcohol While timeshare contracts often include a clause that the contract was not signed under the influence of alcohol, some timeshares may at the same time freely offer alcohol during the presentation. Rentals Many buyers have explained to us they signed up for the contract based on information they were provided about the ability to rent the timeshare, either for financial gain or to cover the cost of their maintenance fees. These claims can be misleading, as ability to rent can either be severely limited or completely prevented by the terms of the contract. Further, many timeshare contracts will include a term that the contract is not signed for financial benefit and is only for personal enjoyment. Not being provided the opportunity to review the contract Timeshare contacts can be long, with various details contained in the fine print. Some of our clients have described situations where they were not provided an opportunity to carefully review the specific terms of the contract before signing. This is not a comprehensive list of the strategies used during these presentations, but it covers some of the more common strategies that have been reported to us by our clients.
