There is a growing pile of Buckthorn at Captain Cornelius Park thanks to a wonderful team of hardworking volunteers! By removing invasive species, we can help to improve the health of this urban woodlot. Native species are being planted in the new space, with even more planned for next year. Thanks to the City of Hamilton for helping to remove some of the larger trees and clearing the pile away, and thanks to RBC #TechforNature for helping to support Biodiversity In Action!
Get active outside with us Wednesday mornings this November from 10-12 at Captain Cornelius Park to help tackle Buckthorn in this otherwise beautiful woodlot. Let us know if you can join us November 11 or 18. Or, volunteer with us at the McQuesten Urban Farm this Thursday, November 12 from 1-3pm, helping to care for the pollinator gardens. Registration is required - please email us at [email protected] for details! These events are made possible thanks to RBC Tech for Nature.
Ash trees in Hamilton are feeling the impacts of the Emerald Ash Borer. Check out this video to learn more about this big problem in our city and how you can spot its effects. As these trees are replaced, it is important to increase the diversity of tree species planted to increase the resiliency of our urban forest to future pests and diseases. Thanks to the Hamilton Community Foundation for supporting a series of educational videos by Trees Please!... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oSq8Kr8hFc
The days are getting shorter and colder, and it's a great time to volunteer to manage invasive species! Get active outside with us Wednesday mornings this November from 10-12 at Captain Cornelius Park to help tackle Buckthorn in this otherwise beautiful woodlot. Let us know if you can join us November 4, 11, or 18. We will also be exploring a different woodlot every Thursday from 10-12 and using iNaturalist to improve our understanding of urban biodiversity. On November 5, we... will be at Crerar Forest. Registration is required - please email us at [email protected] for details! These events are made possible thanks to RBC Tech for Nature.
