The Hamilton Industrial Environmental Association is very pleased to introduce it's newest member - Posner Metals Ltd. and its representative to the HIEA Board of Directors Aaron Posner. The company officially joined the organization on June 1, 2019. Aaron says: We were recyclers long before the idea of recycling began. In some ways, we can consider ourselves to be ‘pioneers’ in the area of environmentalism. Forty years or so ago, when we entered this business, the environme...nt was not a major social concern and the idea of ‘recycling’ was virtually unheard of. We got into the business because it seemed practical and profitable to collect and use scrap metal. Today, environmental concerns are among the major forces that drive our business. Landfill sites cannot accommodate the massive quantities of metal being consumed by our society. In addition, the savings in energy costs and environmental impact by reducing mining area are a substantial benefit of recycling metal. As it was 40 years ago, our solution is to gather metals and deliver it to organizations that can reuse it. Naturally, our approach to metal recycling operations has evolved to meet the highest environmental standards in all aspects of our operations. For four generations, from Hans Posner to the current management to the next generation, we have continued as a family-run business.

We’re Working Together for a Better Hamilton Community HIEA’s member companies play a crucial role in the Hamilton community by generating revenue, paying property taxes, providing employment, and creating new business opportunities through innovation and technology. In 2016 the 12 member companies employed over 7,100 people. Besides the direct employment provided by these 12 companies there are many other individuals and industries operating their businesses in different sec...tors including transportation, consulting, construction, manufacturing, service provider, food industry, etc. as a result of their existence. Accounting for almost 11 percent of Canada's GDP, manufacturing is a high skill, high tech sector. In Hamilton, HIEA members directly provide 7,000 manufacturing jobsalmost all of them full time and well paying. These jobs support approximately 56,000 more jobs through indirect and induced effects playing a critical role in Hamilton’s economy Since its establishment in 1997, HIEA has been actively engaged in consultation with local communities, research organizations, academic institutions, governmental agencies and the public to find the issues, concerns and, suggestions from the wider stakeholders. HIEA has also played an important role in facilitating interaction among its member companies to develop a long-term strategy for pollution management and secondary material reduction. Through rigorous consultation, research and experience; industries jointly started to track and document the flow of material and energy and, their transformation into products, by-products, and wastes throughout their operational systems. HIEA member companies have developed a unique and complete ecosystemworking closely with one another to supply the raw materials needed to manufacture their products. This network allows them to meet customer requirements in a timely and economical manner. This in turn generates employment, fulfills environmental improvements, meets legislation, sustains businesses and, grows the overall local and regional economy.
