Federation and HJFS have been involved in a food shopping initiative for isolated Seniors since the beginning of the pandemic. For the duration of this project..., we have had volunteers step forward to provide shopping and delivery to these Seniors. We need more help. We are looking for 5 community volunteers to assist with this project. We ask that you are willing to follow public health guidelines, are healthy, are able to drive, and believe in making a difference. You will be responsible for shopping for items on a list provided to Federation by the Senior, and for delivery of the item, along with contact with the Senior to let them know the timeline. HJFS will be providing PPE kits, available to every volunteer for this initiative. Federation and HJFS will provide onboarding support to all volunteers. Help us make a difference. Dear Friends, As you know, the City of Hamilton entered into the Grey Zone as of 12:01 a.m. It is expected that the Province of Ontario will enter into a lockdo...wn as of December 24th (12:01 a.m.) For Hamilton Jewish Family Services, this means some distinct changes to our service delivery: The majority of our staff - with the exception of Food Security services and the Executive Director - will be working from home. They ask for your patience as they return your calls and e-mails Our Food Bank will be open; however, the majority of the service will be provided by delivery. If you have questions, please connect with Rachel All Food Bank deliveries will be left outside the client door No clients or visitors will be permitted into Hamilton Jewish Family Services All of our meetings will be done virtually Our office line direct line will be answered between 10 - 3 p.m. Kosher on Wheels will continue to run on a weekly basis Kibitz Corner, Mental Health Counselling, and Case Management will continue to run remotely There are also some holiday changes in the hours which are important to note: December 24th (HJFS closes at noon) December 25th & 28th (HJFS is closed) December 31st (HJFS closes at noon) January 1st (HJFS is closed) We will be working with our partners to ensure that all protocols are followed. We will also be working with our community to ensure people are cared for appropriately. I urge you to consider donating to the Emergency Campaign through the Hamilton Jewish Federation. Again, any donations will be matched by 50% until December 31st, 2020. Your support helps to ensure that our community supports - ranging from educational to social service to aging to community connection - are well-equipped to run in the coming year. Today at HJFS a dedicated team of staff and volunteers packed 2700 lbs of food! This food was for our Rosh Hashanah Harvest Holiday Hampers, and will be given out to 90 families. Each hamper weighs 30 lbs, and contains items like challah, chicken, tea, celery, potatoes, carrots, honey cake, gefilte fish, and so much more. Everyone deserves a sweet new year....
