Let's talk mobility! How can kettlebell training improve your flexibility and range of motion? First, it won't happen overnight! When you begin training with kettlebells, your windmills might suffer because of tight hamstrings and calves. Your squats may be shallow because of hip and ankle tightness. So how will something known for building strength help you loosen up? The first component is a warm-up consisting of both kettlebell exercises and dynamic stretching. A wise ph...ysiotherapist once told me "motion is the lotion" to keep your joints supple. Secondly, many kettlebell exercises involve dynamic mobility (movement) while your muscles are active (contracted/tensed). Combined, these two can lead to increased muscle elasticity, and perhaps the newfound ability to bend over to tie your shoes without groaning. Before training with kettlebells, an "ass to grass" squat was a goal I had yet to achieve; now it's easy peasy!
