Take a peek into life at our Hamlets at Cedarwood Station! At the beginning of Fall we had the opportunity to film here a Cedarwood. While donning our PPE and practicing all the Covid_19 safety measures we where able to show what makes it so special to live here. Our Independent Living community offers so much within. With many amenities, activities, and a staff that embraces health and happiness it is a wonderful & safe community to live in.
Today marks the winter solstice. This winter solstice is extra special with the chance to view the Christmas star (Saturn and Jupiter eclipsing each other) Here are some more interesting facts about the shortest day of the year: https://www.mentalfloss.com//10-things-you-probably-didnt-
Letter writing and card writing is a great way to stay social and spread some joy this season! If you are looking for someone to send a card to, many Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members would love to receive a Christmas greeting! Canada Post is continuing with free delivery of letters and parcels to deployed troops from their family and friends during the 2020 holiday season, but you can also send a greeting card or letter to any CAF member if you wish, though you will require postage in that case. https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/it-really-would-mean-a-lot-to-the?
When do you put up your Christmas decorations? "According to experts, stores that stock holiday decor in the fall have the right idea. The secret is a technique psychologists call savoring, a way to fully absorb life's special moments. In other words, thinking about and planning a holiday extends its bliss beyond a few short weeks." https://www.goodhousekeeping.com//christmas-decorations-e/
So wonderful to see the kindness and generosity over the holidays! A device drive is now underway in Airdrie to get gently-used smartphones and tablets into the hands of long-term care facilities so that isolated seniors can connect virtually with loved-ones over the holidays. Project Joy, an organization founded at the onset of the pandemic to provide connected devices to senior facilities, is asking Airdrie residents to drop off old tablets and smartphones at London Drugs b...efore December 23rd. The devices will be sanitized, cleared of all personal data, refurbished, and then provided to care homes with step-by-step guides for staff to help residents have virtual visits with family over the holidays. http://ow.ly/6owX50CNIj2 #christmascountdown See more

When people follow routines, they tend to be faced with the same, or similar, choices again and again. Choices can be difficult, stressful, and mentally draining. By following a routine and being presented with the same choices, we are able to make these decisions much easier. This helps to simplify life, which in turn results in an increased level of happiness.
Stay in touch with your loved ones this season! You may have seen the green 'connect with a loved one' button on our website, clicking on it will let you write a message to a family member or friend here at the Hamlets. It is #WorldKindnessDay! Which is a great reminder to spread a little extra kindness, to others and yourself. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. - Amelia Earhart
Are you working on some canning and/or pickling? If so what? "Canning is nothing new for many people and it has been done for yearscenturies evenas a way to keep food fresh long after you make it. And that's precisely why it's gaining popularity right now. Experts told CNN the surge is probably fueled by a few reasons, such as people adopting new hobbies as they spend time at home. This could be canning itself or even gardening, which can lead to an influx of fresh food, which then leads to canning." http://ow.ly/ed1f50BRPjs

Lest we Forget. Today we take time to honour our veterans and remember their sacrifice. #lestweforget #remembranceday
As Airdrie prepares for an unusual Remembrance Day disrupted by COVID-19, the Royal Canadian Legion’s Airdrie Branch 288 hopes families will spread the poppy in a creative way. According to Shawnee Hoffman, Entertainment and Ways and Means Officer, the Legion is encouraging individuals and families to create their own poppies to display this November through the Spread the Poppy Airdrie initiative. Hoffman invited Airdronians to handcraft poppies by painting rocks, cutting a...nd colouring paper plates or painting a poppy directly on a window. Once complete, the poppies can be shared on social media using #spreadthepoppy, #supportourveterans and #airdrielegionbranch288 https://www.airdrietoday.com//legion-encourages-airdrie-to
Believe it or not, hearing and eyesight both play a huge role in balance. Many eye conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts can affect coordination, and hearing plays a primary role in balance. Having regular checkups with your optometrist can help to determine if you have any deficiencies, and how to help with them.
An Airdrie woman is hoping to bring awareness to a local support group for those living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). We’d like to make sure other people in Airdrie who are going through the same thing know this group exists, said Jodi Montgomery, a 36-year-old who was diagnosed with relapsing/remitting MS in April 2019. http://ow.ly/eCJj50BELDf
Congratulation to this local group giving to the Airdrie community for 4 years!! 100 Women Who Care Airdrie celebrated their four-year anniversary on September 20. Since forming in 2016, they have raised approximately $127,000 for local organizations. The premise behind the '100' groups is to gather 100 people together four times per year, each donating $100 dollars so that a local group, organization, charity, or non-profit gets a $10,000 funding boost. http://ow.ly/m1Ri50BBRda
Something exciting is in the works! Today we had the pleasure of filming with our social media partners! We had the chance to interview some of our team and residents to catch a glimpse of what makes the Hamlets at Cedarwood Station so special! Thank you We Make Stuff Happen for sharing these behind the scenes pictures!
Today is the first day of autumn! What do you enjoy about fall? "And all at one summer collapsed into fall" - Oscar Wilde
Putting together a fitting tribute to honour the legendary lead singer of an iconic Canadian rock band would be hard enough for most artists, but to do it using 11,400 Canadian pennies makes the work of Airdrie artist Luke Carruthers even more special. http://ow.ly/BSwP50Bxmav
What is the first word you see? One of the activities we have planned for today is group crossword! To share the word puzzle fun with you, here is a small word search! Autumn is almost here, meaning we can start pulling out a fall favourites! Apples! When baking this fall, you'll have three new apple varieties to choose from. All three varieties were specifically bred to be delicious just the way they are. Ithaca, New York's Cornell University is known for its apple-producing process. Billed as the "oldest apple breeding program in the U.S.," their College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) has released at least 70 newly bred apple varieties since 1880 three of which were released this month: NY56, NY73, and NY109. Or as they are called on store shelves: Cordera, Pink Luster, and Firecracker. http://ow.ly/OjWE50Bt84V
