Here's a cool way to support your local community this holiday season! The Penticton and District Community Arts Council is encouraging residents to shop local this holiday season using their LoveLocalArt online directory. The arts council’s online directory is your go-to spot for galleries and artists of all kinds, offering locals a place to find and purchase gifts from local artists, galleries and shops.... Using the directory, people can purchase unique handcrafted goods, book a musician or music lessons, commission an illustration, poem, or painting, decorate with crafts and even discover books by local authors. http://ow.ly/P4Yp50Cnuj6

Young or old, the City of Penticton wants to know how to be more friendly to residents of all ages. The city is looking for feedback from the community as part of an age-friendly initiative launching Oct. 13. Penticton is currently working to become recognized by the province as an age-friendly community. Per the World Health Organization, a community must meet eight criteria to qualify as age-friendly.... As part of the initiative, the city is looking for photographs from students, adults and businesses that help tell a story of how Penticton can be friendlier for residents as they age. http://ow.ly/KVl050BRPyc

An amazing video shows a former prima ballerina with Alzheimer's remembering the music she used to dance to. Such a beautiful moment! Marta C. González, a former New York City Ballet prima ballerina, immediately recognized the sound of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake which listening to it from her wheelchair, and began to dance along with her arms. http://ow.ly/Ca3u50Cjk8V

"There have been shoes, there have been murals, there have been songs and now, there are puppies. Meet Bonnie and Henry, a pair of Labrador puppies named in honour of B.C.'s top doctor. B.C. and Alberta Guide Dogs announced the birth and tribute Tuesday.... "Dr. Henry has been a wonderful presence of calm and guidance through the COVID-19 pandemic," said Bill Thornton, CEO of the organization, in a release. "Our organization felt that it was a fitting tribute to name these little puppies after her, as they will one day grow up to provide those same qualities of guidance and support to someone in need." http://ow.ly/w8Yk50BIoPl See more

A dragonfly that has not been seen in B.C. for 40 years is just one of the discoveries made by citizen scientists over the summer, as part of a major effort to catalogue the province’s plants and animals. The rare Grappletail Dragonfly was spotted during a hike in July in Davis Lake Provincial Park near Mission. This dragonfly is ‘red-listed’ on the B.C. Conservation Data Centre’s list, which means many believed the species had gone extinct. With many people spending more tim...e outdoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BC Parks Foundation launched B.C.’s Big Nature Challenge in which the public is encouraged to help log and identify plants, animals, insects and fungi. So far, almost one million photos have been uploaded. http://ow.ly/a8vW50BEKx7 See more

Unfortunately, the senior living community is often targeted by scams and fraudsters, looking to take advantage of those who do not know better. This can even happen to seniors in Penticton’s Assisted Living Communities, and the best defense against these scammers is to be aware of some of the more common scams.

Things have been a bit windy lately!! Good news for your Friday though, "as for the upcoming forecast, Pentictonites can expect a pleasant end to September. Despite recent conditions that have been more akin to typical fall weather, skies are expected to clear up on Sunday (Sept. 27) with higher than average temperatures all the way through Thursday (Oct. 1)." http://ow.ly/8cb150BBQXV
