Today we honour and remember all the transgender people we have lost, in Canada and around the world, due to transphobic violence in all forms. Trans Day of Remembrance first started in 1999 by trans advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester, a trans woman who was killed in 1998. Transgender Canadians report they are more likely to have experienced violence since age 15, also more likely to experience inappropriate behaviours in public, on...line and at work than cisgender Canadians. To our skaters, officials, friends and fans - you may have noticed that our accounts haven't been very active lately. For that, we apologize, because there's nothing we love more than engaging with our community and sharing content. . However, we're currently not playing roller derby. Without the sport we love so much, our skaters have begun pursuing other avenues to keep themselves safe, happy and healthy during these uncertain times. As a skater run, not for profit league, ...we rely solely on volunteers to create, post and manage our content. Those in the league that were/are managing these accounts unfortunately aren't able to give the time and effort it takes right now, and so, for the time being, our social media accounts and website content are on pause. . Direct messages sent to the league via Facebook and Instagram will still be seen and responded to to the best our ability, but any further content for now that may post to these accounts is pre-scheduled. . We hope that you are all staying healthy and safe. We aren't sure when we'll be able to roll again, but we're certain that when we do, our #HamOnt community will be there for us. .
