Staff Profile - Masked Edition Tara Slemon - ND, BSc Kin. Naturopathic Medicine is her superpower ... Some not so well known facts about Tara... Once fainted in class because she was so afraid of needles, now she can needle herself. Has an unhealthy obsession with raccoons and would have one as a pet if allowed. She has a fur baby named Parker - he’s pretty cool but will probably judge you. She is an avid runner and trains in Muay Thai. And yes she will kick your butt. But not really she’s very nice.... but maybe. See more

As per today’s announcement all regions in Ontario will enter a lockdown period starting December 26th. Regulated health care professionals have been deemed essential and are therefore allowed to remain open. We will be following the same strict COVID-19 guidelines as always. While we are happy to remain open our hearts go out to our neighbours and friends, who are mandated to close. Please consider supporting them in these coming weeks. Gift cards and curb side picku...p go a long way. It has never been more important than right now. See more

We are very excited to welcome Lindsay Bays (Physiotherapist) to our @handsinmotion_bowmanville team! Lindsay grew up in Durham Region in a very active family and was involved in many sports from a young age. Her strong athletic background, combined with a keen interest in the human body and how it moves, led her to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology at McMaster University. She became especially interested in physiotherapy after witnessing a relative underg...o intensive rehab for a spinal cord injury. She realized the significant impact a physiotherapist could have on an individual’s physical function and overall wellbeing, and she aspired to help others in the same way. She went on to complete her Master’s degree of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto, graduating in 2012. Since then, Lindsay has worked in various orthopaedic clinics around the Durham Region and has gained extensive experience treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. She is very passionate about helping her clients achieve their health and wellness goals, using a very hands-on, exercise-focused treatment approach. She has a special interest in treating the athletic and paediatric populations. Lindsay also values the importance of continuing education and has taken several post-graduate courses to enhance her skillset. She has advanced training in manual therapy, acupuncture, and various taping techniques. Outside of the clinic, Lindsay enjoys staying active through running, working out at the gym, and playing tennis and soccer. She also enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her husband and two young daughters. Lindsay will be starting Nov 25th #bowmanville #clarington See more

We’ve all gotten it at one point or another. Repetitive strain or the introduction of a new activity (golf/tennis/gardening) can irritate our elbow tendons and cause pain and weakness. Remember that the best long term exercises are the strengthening exercises Shoulder strength should also be considered. ... We have included exercises to help mobilize and strengthen a muscle called your supinator. It can mimic tennis elbow symptoms and/or compress on the nerve. As always consult a trained therapist or specialist if you have recurring or non responding symptoms. Or if you want to find out what caused these problems in the first place

Squats Have you ever wanted to be better at squatting? You should want to ... It is one of the most functional exercises we can do as humans Somewhere along the way the majority of us have lost the ability to squat. Yet our anatomy still allows us to The goblet squat is one of my most clinically used exercises It helps improve low back, hip, knee and ankle mobility It also helps strengthen the entire body For the purpose of mobility during these exercises; keep your knees in line with your second toe (don’t let them draw inwards) don’t let your feet point too far outwards (increases the torsion on your knees) Don’t rush through these progressions if you are struggling with one. If an area is painful or of this is flaring up an injury back off and go to the previous step. See more
