What your workout looks like is important. But never under estimate the importance of what you do between your workouts. Recovery is the magic pill.

Wait...... What the what? Yes that is an ice cream sandwich. And yes that is peanut butter. Yes peanut butter. Trust me. It compliments the chocolate wafer nicely. But let’s get to the topic. ... It is that time of year. So enjoy it. Having a free meal (or cheat meal or whatever the kids are calling it these days) once in a while is not going to ruin your efforts. In fact a planned free meal every 4-6 days will help increase your ability to maintain whatever diet or nutritional plan you may be following (or pretending to follow). It is true. A little taste of the cookie jar every now and again will keep you from diving head first and over indulging. If you try to have a free meal once in a while but can’t seem to keep your feet from falling in the cookie jar, maybe it is time for some assistance from a coach. Either way, give that ice cream sandwich a try and tell us what you think.

According to Matthew Walker, PhD's book, "Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams" there are literally thousands of studies showing that there is not one biological function that is not in some way benefited by a good night's sleep. We place a great deal of emphasis on diet and exercise, and we don't want to negate the benefits of these two pieces of the puzzle. If you've ever tried to put together a puzzle with missing pieces though, it's rather unsatisfying, ...and in the case of sleep, it can be rather damaging to your overall health and success in reaching your goals. As trainers, we value the importance of your rest and recovery time as much as or possibly even more than your time physically in the gym. Are you getting enough QUALITY sleep, or is your puzzle missing this very important piece?
