Found photos of some of the 8-12 year old sleep over that never got posted! We had a great (and long!) time at kinsmen park this night.

There is a fair amount of coats, sweaters, hats and other items left here at the arena. If your child is missing anything it may be in our lost and found. We will be donating all items left in lost and found to the Women's Center at 430 today. There was also a lion blanket left here last night from the sleepover if your child is missing their blanket! There is also several accounts not paid for this week that would need to be settled before the end of today. Please drop into the arena to settle over due accounts. Thank you and have a great 2014/2015 school year!

Today we got to hit the councillors in the face with pie! Guess who got hit the most haha

The 5-7 age group is having a fantastic glow party while the 8-12 are having a great time learning how to break dance at the Lawrence O'Brian arts center!

We had Puka the boat safety bear visit us and have a dance party before helping us learn all about water safety! Thanks Puka we a had a LOT of fun dancing with you today!

We had a wonderful, educational and tasty adventure at Birch Brook today! We went hiking and playing in the woods, found frogs, ate and picked blueberries and raspberries, read maps and looked at all the wild flowers. We were very thirsty today so maybe next time we will need to have more water or reusable water bottles :)

Christmas Day at summer rec! Santa dropped over for a visit and handed out presents in exchange for cookies, thanks Santa!! We also made sugar cookies and decorated them to have at snack with some milk and played pass the parcel, it was a very exciting day!

Tentative August Schedule of Events August 4-NO SUMMER REC town holiday August 5- Birch Brook all day August 7-Fire Hall afternoon... August 8-NWR all day August 11-Pool (age 5-7 must have a parent to swim from 2-3pm; children not swimming will play in the gym) August 12- Water Fight, please ensure change of clothing or swimwear! August 13-Birch Brook all day August 14-Halloween Day (please send your child in with a costume!) August 15-NWR and MUN Visiting Artist August 18-Birch Brook all day August 20-Black Light/Glow Party (please dress your child in white or other UV reflective clothing) *August 21-Camp/Sleepover for age 8-12 drop off at arena 1pm or later *August 22- Age 5-7 NWR9-3 , Age 8-12 pick up at 8:30 LAST DAY August 21 we have a sleepover camp for age 8-12. Unfortunately Christian Youth Camp never worked out for us this year but we had great support from parents for a camp. Drop off will be at the arena at 1pm August 21 and pick up 8:30am august 22. Supper, snacks and breakfast provided at the sleepover. Wednesday is still our regular pizza days for $2 a slice and must be paid by Tuesday pick up time.

Sharing this FREE camp with our Summer Rec families who have children 11 to 13 years old!

We made box forts(and had loads of laughs knocking them over) and made toothpick and marshmallow structures (I think more marshmallows were eaten then built with though!)

We played with baking soda and vinegar this morning!

Playground fun! Unfortunately we had to cancel the fire station but we took the bus to the base playground instead!

We done a couple science activities today! We made gak and goop. Both had some surprising and exciting reactions! Goop Mix cornstarch and water together in a large bowl or tray. Mix in enough cornstarch so that it is not solid but not watery. When children play with this non Newtonian fluid it will act as both a solid and a liquid! Solid when in motion and liquid when at rest!... Gak 2 cups of white school glue 1 and 1/2 cups of WARM water (not hot) 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of borax 1 cup of warm water (not hot) In bowl one mix glue and 1 1/2 cups warm water, mix completely in bowl two mix borax and 1 cup of warm water, mix completely. Pour bowl two into bowl one and mix immediately. Use hands to ensure fully mixed and no water is left behind. This is a polymer substance. It will be slimy at first but as it is played with it will become more like the store bought silly putty! A great book to read when doing these activities with your children is "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" by Dr Seuss! This book can be found at our local library and Hyra will be waiting for your visit! While you are there take the time to visit the great children's section that has not only books but games, puzzles, movies, puppets and other great toys all to use for free!

On Thursday July 31 we will be having Christmas in July! We are asking parents to please provide a $10 or less gender neutral present for Santa to hand out to the children. We will also be doing milk and cookies for the children and ask that they come in their PJ's

We had a fantastic "sleepover" party! We watched Toy Story and the councillors made surprise pancakes for the children for brunch! We built forts with our blankets and played hide and seek in the "dark"!

Tomorrow is suppose to be BEACH DAY, however we are calling for rain. If weather permits we will be going to the beach if not we have a SLUMBER PARTY planned instead, this will be from 8:30-4:30 at the arena. Please pack your child with both beach supplies and a sleeping bag/blanket, pillow and be sure to wear PJ's!!

We had a great trip to the police station. The children explored the whole detachment and was even taken into lock up (highlight for many!!) before exploring the police truck and sirens!
