Meet Podortho Nurse and OPNA member Josee Lanthier-Hunter Josée is the owner and Director of Care of both Happy Feet Medical Foot Care Inc and Happy Feet Works...hops and Supplies. Early in her nursing career, Josée recognized that her passion was in the field of preventative care where improved quality of life was at the forefront of her nursing philosophy. Josée’s desire to grow this philosophy sent her on a journey to pursue independent nursing by studying Advanced Foot Care. Choosing this focus has aided her in realizing her vision of improving the quality of life of her clients and her community. She has since grown her practice to include 2 clinics, 11 facilities, home care nursing treatments and 7 wonderful team members. We at Happy Feet are committed to staying open during this time of uncertainty and continue to provide its gold standard of care so greatly needed in our community. But in order to stay open during this pandemic some things do need to change. 1. Open Phone Policy Our open door policy has turned into an open phone policy. Please dont walk into the clinic if you dont have an appointment, call us at (613) 525-2424 and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. ... Our phone is answered Monday - Friday from 9am-5pm. 2. No Show Policy We are enacting a strict No Show policy. Due to the high level of people needing to be seen and the very limited ability of our nurses to see everyone, if you make an appointment please ensure you can keep it. If an appointment is missed then the charge of the treatment missed will be added to your next visit. And finally, 3. Price increase The cost to independent healthcare practitioners has gone up considerably. Not only for our regular supplies but also the added measure and materials we need to keep everyone safe has put considerable amount of strain on our running costs. My plan was to hold off on increasing my price until August but unfortunately waiting until August is not an option. The new price for a foot care treatment in the clinic and facility settings will be $45. To those loyal clients who had their regular appointment canceled due to the pandemic, we will be honouring one last appointment at the old rate of $35. We wish things could continue as they always have but unfortunately this is no longer possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this unprecedented time. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hello everyone!! I just wanted to take a quick moment to let you know that we are currently open for urgent care only. Urgent care means for those who feel pain, are diabetic or have any other underlying conditions which can result in a potential problem. Please call for an appointment as regular appointments are no longer an options at this time. We are holding our price at $35 at the clinic for now but we will need to reevaluate our cost once the market stabilizes and are planning a price increase for August 1st. A very BASIC EXPLANATION of why we should care about the CORONAVIRUS IN ALEXANDRIA The Coronavirus spreads fast and can feel like anything from a cold all the way to a deadly flu. The 3 basic issues we are fighting (as I understand it) are as follows: ... 1. We are young and healthy so its not scary for our health but our industry will get ravaged. When the virus spreads it spreads fast, we get sick, we need to take sick days to recover. But think about it, youre sick, BUT so is everyone else... so whos running the office, working the machines, driving the trucks, serving the food, nursing? Whos working, how are we making money? We have many small businesses in Alexandria, how are our employers going to be able to cover so many sick days? Our small town will be shut down 2. We are old and healthy, it will be tough, our healthcare will get ravaged The virus is strong and had a head start before it was detected by our immune system. It will be hard to get through it. It will make our other medical issues take a back seat as our body fights the virus. We will most likely need medical help to deal with the domino effect happening in our body. Look around our community, we have a big population over 65 years. Can our local healthcare system sustain us all getting sick at once? 3. We are old and weak, our bodies wont be strong enough to fight it, our lifestyle or life itself will be ravaged. Worst case scenario, this virus makes it into the retirement and nursing homes. Our most vulnerable people. We already have complicated medical conditions, with medical intervention assisting us in life. Add to this a fast and strong acting virus, an active imagination isnt needed to see where this will lead. So how do we stop this virus from spreading? Unfortunately, we cant BUT what we can do is slow down its speed. Lets not all get sick at once. HOW DO WE DO THIS? The medical community and media is calling it ACTIVE SOCIAL DISTANCING. What does this mean? It means no social gatherings, no going on unnecessary outings, dont visit a nursing or retirement home, basically ACT AS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A COLD. Stay home, reschedule your non essential appointments, do what you would do if you were sick. Sanitize youre work station, wipe the door knobs. Dont go in for the extra hug! We are a small, tight knit community and we need everyone in this community to rally. The COVID-19 virus is here. It doesnt have to be scary, we just need to take it seriously and taking it seriously means we need to do what we can to slow it down. This is how we fight the virus! Lets make it have as little effect on our community as possible. Thank you for reading
