Teaching Yoga to Brand-new Beginners with Barrie Risman BEGINNING TOMORROW Tuesdays ... from 7:00 pm to 8:20 pm EST April 13th to April 27th, 2021 Live Online via Zoom* When teaching yoga sequences to beginners, you have the privilege of introducing your fellow humans to a practice that has the potential to be incredibly healing and transformative, and you have the chance to learn some marvelous new things in the process. In the yoga world, we often hear references to the importance of cultivating beginner’s mind, but this doesn’t just apply to the student role. As a teacher, every class you offer is ripe with the opportunity to make new and fascinating discoveries (about yoga, about your students, and about yourself). And perhaps most important of all, each class brings with it a new beginning, and a new chance to offer kindness, acceptance, encouragement and support to everyone who shows up to practice. #SelfCareSunday Recognize that you can overcome all the obstacles that come at you, and you already have overcome many past obstacles. You have the tools to face your challenges. And you can seek out more resources around you and learn new things. What’s important is your perception. Your perception of obstacles makes a difference. Some people see obstacles as a puzzle to solve. Some see obstacles as an opportunity to grow. Others see obstacles as threats. Still, others see ...obstacles as meaning they cannot succeed. Your view of the barriers to achieving your goals affects how you react. Dr. Karyn Hall Open your journal, and make a list of challenging things you have faced and found a way through. Consider also what you have learned about yourself as a result of dealing with those obstacles. Now think back a few years and add those to the list. You are more resilient than you know. #resilience #overcome #youvesurvived100percentofyourworstdays #selfcare

Wow, the end of 2020 is finally upon us! We know this year did not go at all as planned with a pandemic, lockdown, and many BIG changes that most were not prepared for. Though this year came with a lot of unexpected challenges and changes- there is always the possibility to look at what we have learned and find gratitude through these moments, even though at times it seems difficult. ... This year called for extra self care and love as we moved along, and as we end this year that still stands true. As we move into the new year, take care of yourself. Nourish yourself with good conversation (even virtual conversations can fuel our souls), foods that feel good, hot tea, skin care, time in nature, movement, spend time with people who inspire you, read things that fill you up. Self care can look different for everyone. Check in with what kind of care you need at this time in your life and be sure to carve out space to nourish your mind, body and soul. And as we say goodbye to 2020, and welcome 2021, we’ll leave you with the following quotes: Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go. They merely determine where you start. Nido Qubein The New Year is a painting not yet painted; a path not yet stepped on; a wing not yet taken off! Things haven’t happened as yet! Before the clock strikes twelve, remember that you are blessed with the ability to reshape your life! Mehmet Murat ildan Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing. Sarah Ban Breathnach We wish all of you a happy, hopeful, and healthy new year! Peace and Love, Team HappyTree #nye2020 #nye2021 #byebye2020 #hellofutureself

#SelfCareSunday We believe what we tell ourselves. Remember, don’t believe everything you think. ... Sometimes if we’re feeling down, or anxious etc etc, it can be easy to listen to our thoughts as though they were the absolute truth. Question your inner dialogue. Where’s the proof? And even though it’s tough sometimes, and we need a reminder (here’s yours!), talk to yourself as if you were talking to your best friend. Words matterespecially those we tell ourselves. #ThisTooShallPass #YouCanDoThis #wordsmatter #selftalkmatters

Guided Relaxation for Adapting to Change: 15-minute Yoga Nidra

HappyTree Yoga 27.11.2020

#WisdomWednesday Every year, many of us make a list of New Year’s resolutions; things we want to start doing or avoid doing, to improve ourselves. ...And many of us fail to accomplish some or all the resolutions in our list.... According to Reaume & Park (2018), 3 in 10 Canadians make resolutions, and 73% forget about them by March. According to many sources, New Year’s resolutions are a tradition, found among many cultures, in which a person decides to accomplish a personal goal to improve their life. Sometimes the resolutions are to remove bad habits or to create positive ones. Often, either type of resolution is difficult to maintain. Even though the effort to adopt a resolution shows a positive attitude in starting your New Year, how you go about attaining success makes a big difference in how well you achieve it. Studies on neuroscience link goal-setting techniques and life experience as a way turn resolutions into realities. According to research, goal setting is better than making resolutions. For instance, a resolution is rigid (I will stop eating junk food), where goal setting is fluid (start with a small step and increase as you get accustomed to the change). Resolution can create a sense of failure due to its rigidity; where goal setting can give a sense of accomplishment as you achieve the small steps. If a resolution is too difficult, it can be dropped or forgotten; if a goal is too difficult, it can be adjusted to lead to the original result. Stay tuned HappyTree will be offering a dynamic 2hr online WORKSHOP in January, focused on getting CLEAR about what you intend to MANIFEST in 2021, with a visual representation of your GOALS! Details coming soon... #goalsetting #visionboard #goalsnotresolutions #manifest #goalsetting2021 #onlineworkshop

#WisdomWednesday Join us for our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training - Now Online! With Lauren Enright February 19th to 21st, 2021... How Is Prenatal Yoga Different from Regular Yoga? Is prenatal yoga simply yoga classes attended by pregnant women, or are there specific qualities that distinguish it from regular yoga? The answer is that there are, in fact, important and identifiable differences that set prenatal yoga classes apart from classes that are open to anyone. What Will I See in Prenatal Yoga Classes? What Won't I See? Prenatal yoga classes generally offer gentler, less strenuous sequences of poses & a greater use of props to support the body in poses. Your teacher may offer a number of variations and use props (belts, bolsters, blocks, or chairs) to make poses comfortable & available to you during each stage of your pregnancy; you may also use more props as your baby grows. What you won't -- and shouldn't -- see in prenatal classes are elevated temperatures (as in "hot yoga" classes) because they put you at risk for lightheadedness, dehydration, & other complications. You also won't see certain categories of poses, like those that require you to lie on your back or twist deeply, as they can put pressure on your organs & major blood vessels in a way that could be unsafe for your baby. What Yoga Poses Can I Expect to Practice? A skilled instructor will offer a sequence of poses that are designed to meet all the students' needs. Regardless of which stage of pregnancy the student is in, prenatal yoga poses generally target the back, particularly the lower back, an area that is especially vulnerable to pain & injury as a growing belly and shifting center of gravity tug the spine out of its natural curvature. "The postures are designed very specifically to strengthen the back as well as lengthen the muscles that support the low back," Our yoga teacher training is open to anyone with a desire to learn more about how yoga, in all its forms (asana, pranayama, meditation, mantras) can be used to welcome more comfort, calm, connection & joy into the body, mind, & spirit during pregnancy & birth. #WisdomWednesday As the holiday season is upon us, this message is important to so many out there... There is no right or wrong way to feel. ... Denying how you are feeling will only make your life and the moment, even more difficult and stressful. Own your feelings in every moment, honor them, understand what's happening for you, and allow the feelings to move through your body. Feeling your feelings and accepting them completely helps clear the way for you to make a decision for you that's in alignment with what you want and who you are. Always be the magnificent you that you are. - Barb Schmidt Sending our love and peaceful, healthy wishes to all of you... #honouryourfeelings #inalignment #holidayseason #itsokaynottobeokay
