Our goal for 2019? Shop locally, and buy less but better. Living in Hamilton's James Street North neighbourhood makes that easier than ever: Local artisans are the backbone of the vibrant area, producing everything from linen pinafores to letterpress cards.

Hunter Milborne, CEO of Milborne Group and a longtime friend of Vernon Shaw, who has spent the majority of his career building a very successful real estate agency in Toronto, is returning to his Hamilton hometown with Harbour Condos on the Bay. Milborne grew up not far from the site and wanted to help create something special for this waterfront property: His family owned a framing shop just down the street. It's like a full circle thing, he told the The Hamilton Spectator. To read the full feature, check out the link in bio. Photo by Scott Gardner for The Hamilton Spectator

The holiday season is approaching, which often means sitting through snowy drives or tracking down impossible-to-find taxis. Celebrate Hamilton’s thriving brewing community this weekend by stopping in for a pint at Collective Arts Brewing, just off the base of James Street North. Among the first outposts in the city, the art-focused brewery still makes a must-try IPA. While you’re there, check out the bottle gallery which showcases the work of every artist the brewery has worked with over the past 4 years to create eye-catching and memorable labels.

Brandon Jackson, the owner of Slurp Ramen, is excited to be working on new seasonal menus. Not everyone feels like hot broth when the weather is warm, he says with a smile. Here, he displays savory unagi steamed buns topped with pickled onions and crisp cucumber that would make a satisfying late summer lunch. Look for Slurp in the lower level of Hamilton’s beloved Farmer’s Market (35 York).

For over 135 years, Hamilton's Coppley has been making sharply tailored men’s suits for a dedicated North American clientele. With its head office just off James Street North, they are now able to turn around a made-to-measure suit faster than just about any other tailor which is a handy blend of bespoke luxury, slow fashion and I need that linen suit for a wedding on the weekend practicality. You could stick to your cleanse today, or you could walk just up the street from Harbour Condos on the Bay to indulge at Chocolat on James (123 James St N). The silky truffles created by chocolatier Sheryl Cronsberry will make you realize that life is too short to go without her mouthwatering confections. We particularly love the black forest truffles.
