We are very sad, but also very excited for our Director of Community Programming, Tiawna LaMontagne, for her new venture, One Heart Training! Today is her last day at Harbour Landing Village. Tiawna has been a valuable and well respected member of our team and her work and contributions to our organization have made a great impact! Over the past 3 years, Tiawna led her team in developing many unique and engaging activities and special events for our residents (as well as for ...the public at large before the pandemic). Tiawna’s willingness to help out wherever needed was a major asset to The Village and something we will miss - this included being part of the 55 days of sheltering in place at the beginning of the pandemic. We sincerely wish Tiawna the best of luck going forward and look forward to continuing our relationship with First Aid & CPR training for our staff. See more
With most of the snow melted and the temperatures slowly starting to riseall signs point to good days ahead. This beautiful weather has everyone looking forward to the 2021 edition of our flower garden Harbour Landing Village! Stay safe, make good choices, and let's get through this current wave of COVID-19 so we can hopefully enjoy May flowers together.
On this beautiful day, here's sending our best wishes for a very Happy Easter to you and your loved ones! Please stay safe and make good choices.
Why did the chicken cross the road... to socially distance himself from the other chickens of course! #pandemiclife Lots of fun and foolish jokes had us cracking up at the Village yesterday! Dan is definitely the new king of April Fools day! Happy Good Friday everyone, enjoy the long weekend!!
Where does the April Fool's tradition come from? After some research, we found out that it all started because of the calendar change in 16th century France. That's when New Year's Day moved from April 1 to January 1. People who continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st were labelled as "April fools" and others played tricks on them. We hope you have a fantastic April Fools Day this year and you don't end up on the receiving end of too many pranks!
Our Harbour Landing Village 'Twinkle Tour' is a very popular activity we put on for our residents each December. Our residents sing Christmas carols, enjoy hot chocolate, and of course see the beautiful festive views as part of the Regina Sparkle Tour (way to go Regina!). This year we also made a few SPECIAL SURPRISE detours to see residents' family members to exchange #merrychristmas greetings! Even though everyone wore masks and physical distancing was mandatory, it was very special to feel the love and the Christmas Spirit in the air!
After nearly 10 months of adjusting to the pandemic, public health orders, and various safety measures, many people have understandably found it difficult to get into the Christmas Spirit this year. But leave it to Jolly Old Saint Nicholas to make the holidays a bit brighter! THANK YOU SANTA for stopping by last night and spreading some festive cheer at Harbour Landing Village. Your "sleigh" illuminated the road and captured everyone's full attention as if it was magical! Great work by John Thompson of Coca-Cola Regina for carrying forward with the Santa Tour around the city in a manner that respects public health orders. Thank you to Ellen on our Community Living Team for lining this up.
Christmas is a time of giving and sharing with those around us, but that sharing is not limited to those that we love and care for. It is also for the person that we have never met and will never see; those who are not so fortunate in their lives as we are, and who could use a helping hand. This year, all areas within our Village came together and partnered with The Salvation Army in Canada to support a local family of 9 in need, providing them with Christmas supper and presents to open on Christmas morning. The #SalvationArmy is a community organization that gives hope and support to vulnerable people in 400 communities across Canada and in 131 countries. Please consider supporting your local Salvation Army - https://salvationarmy.ca/
Santa stops at the Village!
Meet our President & CEO Janson Anderson (or Janta Claus as we know him these days). Janson’s people focused approach has been a considerable asset for The Village since he joined us in February 2018. Since then, he’s helped enable our one-of-a-kind vibrant atmosphere and village-like experience. He is a community leader, a family man, a sports nut, and has a spectacular collection of eyewear. As we move into next year and toward the end of the pandemic, we are so excited that his leadership is what will guide us into the new normal.
It hasn't been easy, but our team has been working tirelessly to care for our residents and their families during the pandemic. Thank you Deb for your words of appreciation - we love having your mom around at The Village!
While each area within our Village is fully separated due to the pandemic, we still look for creative ways to encourage cross-generational sharing of talents, skills, experiences and energy. One example is our weekly Story Time at the Village, which is now done virtually using video chat. In this photo, Kent, a former teacher and principal, reads a book to the children in our Childcare Centre. It was an awesome experience for everyone!
Thank you Stacey for trusting Harbour Landing Village with your mom's care. We can understand that moving a parent into senior living might be a scary thing to consider during the pandemic. Our dedicated staff is here to ensure a smooth and safe transition!
Our Knitting Club has been extra busy year! In true Christmas spirit, they are auctioning off their handmade creations, with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Regina Transition House. This wonderful organization has been supporting women and children to live violence-free for over 40 years. Each item, from socks to afghans, has been made with love by our talented residents and staff. Visit harbourlandingvillage.ca/transition-house-auction/ to place your bids in support of a great cause!
Children can often be a rare sight for older adults living in senior care and living communities, even more so during the pandemic. Harbour Landing Village is proud to be a true intergenerational community, offering regular activities that provide significant benefits to our residents and the children in our Childcare Centre. While pandemic safety measures have changed the way our residents and childcare are able to interact, our new 'Village Pen Pal' program has been a popular way for Averie and Grandma Lee - and many others - to stay connected, which is particularly important during the holiday season.
This year, the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce is holding an online virtual ceremony for the 2020 ABEX Awards. This year the ABEX Awards 2020 are recognizing individuals and businesses who have demonstrated resilience, innovation, and helped the province through this challenging year. Harbour Landing Village is humbled and honored to be a recipient of the Award of Merit. This award is ALL ABOUT our amazing and very dedicated team in all areas of The Village. Our senior team... is holding a small viewing party tonight abiding by provincial COVID-19 guidelines. In this photo, is the team that stayed overnight for more than 55 days. The team is holding the iconic ABEX trophy and a belt symbolic of the 24/7 leadership, service, and support provided to our residents, our childcare, and to all of our frontline healthcare workers. If you'd like to tune in to watch the awards virtually, visit saskchamber.com or Facebook or YouTube. Congratulations to all of the other local businesses who were awarded for their incredible resilience! Please stay safe, stay healthy, and do your part to help slow COVID-19.
A BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Hart's Grade 7/8 Class at St. Sacred Heart Community School, Mr. Howse's Grade 6 Class and Mrs. E. Geddes' Grade 1 Class at École Harbour Landing School, and Mrs. Kaufmann's Grade 6 Class at Pilot Butte School for the thoughtful Christmas cards (and ornaments) for our residents. Everyone appreciated your kindness and the extra Christmas Cheer! Our residents are putting together big cards for your classrooms and we look forward to connecting virtually in the coming weeks to say thank you. There are some very talented artists out there!

We are incredibly excited to have been voted "Best Retirement Home/Community" in Prairie Dog Magazine's Best of Regina 2020! Despite all of the challenges we've faced since March, it has been wonderful to see Regina rally around its local businesses and organizations. As we get closer to Christmas, we realize that holiday celebrations at The Village will look very different this year. Our residents miss their families dearly. Still, we are so grateful for everyone who is do...ing their part in slowing the spread of COVID-19. You are keeping our residents safe! Thank you again for everyone’s support. Please consider shopping local this holiday season - we ourselves are offering delicious Christmas to-go specials at Roots Kitchen & Bar. Sure, we're biased, but they’re pretty great. Stay safe!
