This week in Culinary Tech, Vikings made holiday cookies

This week at HVHS, Mrs Gallagher’s culinary tech class made Thai Noodles with fresh Basil from our hydroponic garden.

Today at HVHS, Mrs. Gallagher’s Cul tech’ class made a Veggie Pizza and Salad for the Sunshine Cafe using veggies from our school garden

Vegetables from our garden and hydroponics systems are used during Wellness Weeks when the whole school is provided a healthy lunch in the sunshine cafe which... is open daily for students in need of a lunch and are also sold to our school cafeteria Having a garden provides many cross curricular learning opportunities for students in: environmental science biology culinary technutrition and healthy living cooperative education framing and sheathing metals processing journalism and photography where Vikings are taught about the benefits of fresh locally-grown food and sustainability Volunteers are always welcome to help maintain the garden and harvest vegetables Our school garden was established in 2015 by one of our very own teachers, Ms. Lennon, with the help of her environmental science class; our hydroponics systems were purchased last year by our Climate Action group after receiving a $30 000 grant from RBC and the Greater Saint John Community Foundation

Each month, we at Harbour View like to celebrate our Viking family values. Teachers nominate students for their positive and unique contributions to the school environment and community. Cooking fun in Math 1208 Last week our Vikings did a project and fed their classmates! Instructions were: take a recipe, do the math to scale it for a larger number, then make the recipe. Some examples are seen here, Calzones and Cookies!

Today in Forensic Science, Vikings participated in a blood splatter lab and check out those crime scene outfits

Introducing THE GOLDEN STAND. This stand is going to be awarded to a different student (in each music class) to use for the week. Recipients will be chosen by Ms. Sanderson and Mrs. Dick and will be awarded for various reasons. Ie. A great playing assignment, awesome progress, perfect attendance, extra/consistent effort, etc Thank you, Grade 12 Flutist Abby Campbell, for designing and painting The Golden Stand!
