Here is another 'what goes on behind the scenes' post. This picture from our Charlottetown store is a great visual of what is involved when we bring a chair in for a client. The chair on the left is how we receive the chair, we then install the seat pan (solid surface the cushion sits on) the seat, backrest, head rest and all hardware that keeps the seating systems in place. These items most often come from different manufacturers (multiple orders and receiving documents) - o...nce we make sure each item is organized for the correct client, we then need to work with the clinician (OT) and family to schedule a time that works for everyone. Last week, the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia loaned out $40,000 worth of equipment! How much did it cost people with ALS to get this equipment? A...bsolutely nothing. We are able to take away this financial burden from families because of a caring community of people who volunteer and donate to be able to offer this service. This equipment will make life easier for people living with ALS and their caregivers. A lift means someone can be transferred and safely, without putting a strain on the caregiver. A power wheelchair will help someone be mobile without having to rely on others. A commode will help someone with ALS conserve their energy. A hospital bed will help someone with ALS be comfortable and get a better sleep. A 45 tilt manual chair will relieve pressure from muscles (tilt function) and helps them to be mobile. *If any of this equipment might be helpful for you or your loved one, talk to your healthcare professionals (OTs, PTs, etc.) about what equipment is right for you and your home. Once we receive a prescription/requisition from your healthcare professional, the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia gets to work to get the equipment to you!*
