Stay hydrated and avoid dry mouth! Saliva in our mouths helps to wash away food debris and reduce plaque. Dry mouth can lead to severe tooth decay and gum disease if left untreated. In fact, 30 percent of all tooth decay in older adults is caused by dry mouth, according to the Oral Cancer Foundation. Its not uncommon for senior citizens to use the bathroom more in their old age. As a result, some senior citizens actively try to drink less so they wont have to go as often.... While this is certainly understandable, staying adequately hydrated is not only important for your overall health, its important for your dental health as well. What can you do? * Up your water intake. Sip lots of water rather than drink a full glass of water at a time. * Sleep with a humidifier running. Moistening the air is an excellent way to alleviate dry mouth during the night. * Chew a piece of sugarless gum or suck on a piece of sugar-free candy, this can trigger the salivary glands to release more saliva. * You may want to talk with your doctor to see if any of your medications may cause dry mouth, and if there are any other alternative medications you can try instead. * Saliva substitutes and stimulants are also available and can afford some relief. #harmonydental #oralcare #beautifulsmile #healthymouth #drymouth #community #richmondbc #steveston #seniororalcare

The cost of the disposable ones is mounting and the resources to make them is limited so they are becoming difficult for offices like ours to obtain. What does Phase 2 of reopening look like for Harmony Dental Studio? The BC Provincial Health Officer (PHO) has suggested that some forms of dental care can begin on May 19th, however, we just received direction on best practices from the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia this May long weekend. Now we are busy working on getting our necessary safety plan in place so that we can start seeing patients knowing we are doing everything necessary to keep our community a...nd team safe. We anticipate a soft opening date of June 2 with regular services resuming later in the summer. We will be prioritizing patients that have urgent dental needs first, and then contacting patients in order of the appointments that were missed during the closure. Please be patient with us as we work our way through this. We are very excited to see you and provide safe care to our Harmony Dental Studio Community!
