REGISTER: Walk with Me: Harm Reduction Equals LOVE Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week Event Mon Dec 7th. 5-8pm Toronto Time (GMT-5 hours) WEBINIAR Co-hosted by: C...anadian Aboriginal AIDS Network (CAAN) Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy (Oahas) International Indigenous Working Group on HIV & AIDS (IIWGHA) Community co-hosts come together to invite Indigenous organizations, AIDS service organizations, human rights advocates, Indigenous communities, people living with HIV and students for a night of cultural sharing, interactive dialogue and personal testimony. We're going to have some fun! What are the realities for Indigenous 2-Spirit, gender non-binary and LGBTQ for accessing housing, a safe drug supply and dealing with HIV stigma and discrimination? How does harm reduction and Indigenous culture help our people? For many people living with or at risk of HIV, stigma is like a ball of elastics getting tighter and tighter. Help us unravel stigma and find some answers in this time of COVID. On June 24 from 5:30-7:30pm join in the celebration of PRIDE with The ArtSpeaks Project. We’ll be working together while staying home, apart but not alone, cele...brating the LGBTQ2S community through creative explorations in journal making and collage (you’ll need misc papers, magazine images/photocopies, glue/string, drawing materials, paints etc.). Everyone is welcome to participate in our Cyber-Hive for Pride; work along with us or on a project of your own choosing and join The ArtSpeaks Project on Facebook Live or Instagram Stories on there page. ‘The ArtSpeaks Project’. So on the 24th, put together a Facebook Watch party with your friends, tune in from your favourite spot on the couch and let’s make some art! And afterwards, send pics of your work to [email protected] and we’ll be sure to share your images to our FB and Instagram pages. Many thanks to Algoma Family Services for inviting ArtSpeaks to host this event. ArtSpeaks is funded by the Sault Ste. Marie Museum, Breton House and SAH’s Sexual Assault Care Centre with special funding from the City of SSM.

June is Pride Month and while in-person events may be on hold that won’t stop us from celebrating! The PRIDE Project is hosting 2 Drag Story Time and Draw Along... events this month but we knew that folks throughout SSM were working hard to put on other events as well. In an effort to break down silos and bring people together, we scoured the internet and reached out to organizations that we know have supported Pride events in years past. The result is the Pride 2020 SSM Community Calendar that you see below. We will keep adding to this calendar as we learn about new events so keep checking back. If you have any trouble reading the calendar, upcoming events are also listed in a separate post below. Please note that The PRIDE Project cannot guarantee the safety of any virtual event, particularly where we are not involved with organizing. So, while we encourage you to celebrate, we want you to do so safely. With that in mind, please remember: 1. Coming out can be a fabulous feeling when you are ready but it is can also be terrifying and for good reason. Please do not assume everyone at an event is safely or completely out. Sharing photos, videos or names of attendees can be dangerous. Please never out other people. 2. Many Pride events are all ages events. This can create a fabulous energy but it can also bring dangers. Be aware of what you share and with whom. The Queer* Community is no more vulnerable to predators than anyone else but we aren’t immune either. 3. Be safe. Be respectful. Be proud! Have fun!
