It’s time for Fun Fact Friday! This week is all about kittens. Did you know? -While some baby animals stand up on their own within minutes of birth, cats need a little more time. Kittens don’t learn to walk until they’re around three weeks old. Their first steps are always wobbly and adorable. About a week after they’re officially mobile, they start to run and play. -We often say cats are making bread when they move their paws in a way that looks like kneading. It’s super c...ute, and it also serves an important purpose. They do it to stimulate milk flow while nursing. And when they’re older, it’s a behavior that shows they’re seeking comfort. -A cat’s and kitten’s whiskers are about as long as their bodies are wide. This is because whiskers are used to navigate through their surroundings and explore new places without your cat having to put her entire body there. See more
Today is National Walking Day. Walking dogs has multiple health benefits for them, as well as for us. Dogs don’t like to be bored so by giving them something constructive to do, like taking a walk, they will be less likely to exhibit destructive behaviours. Taking a walk will also strengthen the bond you share with your dog. So even though the weather may not be great, let’s all get out there for a walk today!
If you’re ever wondering why vets just can’t ‘give’ medications as requested. Legally there must be an established Veterinary-client-patient relationship. Often this includes coming in at least once annually for a consult or exam to continue the relationship, hence why annual exams are highly recommended.

Why are grapes and raisins toxic to dogs? New insights!
Some puppy cuteness for Fun Fact Saturday. Did you know: those adorable "puppy eyes" are not an inadvertent expression of canine emotion; they're a deliberate ploy to get our attention. Puppies (and adult dogs) have learned that raising their eyebrows, which makes their eyes appear bigger and sadder, makes them magnets for human attention. According to one study from 2017, dogs are more likely to make dramatic facial expressions like puppy-dog eyes when they know humans are watching. And it works. Research has shown that shelter puppies who put on such faces get adopted more quickly than dogs that show other behaviors, like wagging their tails.
Please note we will be closed on Wednesday November 11th in order to observe Remembrance Day and take a moment to thank all the men, women and service animals for their service and sacrifice so that we may enjoy our freedom today. We will re-open on Thursday November 12th at 8:30am. If you have an emergency at this time, please call (250) 962-7808.
Happy Halloween! Look at this beautiful ‘cat’ cake a client gave to us recently. Too bad we had to cut into it to enjoy it fully... yum!
How fitting is it that Salem came into the clinic just before Halloween? Salem was here for his neuter today and was very brave and curious about things. We'll have to watch out for anything strange and mysterious around here for the next couple of days-although we know Salem's not unlucky, just adorable!
With Halloween just around the corner Leeloo wanted to show off her natural tiger costume. She was a very brave girl for her vaccines today and has mastered the art of ‘the sit’. Are you dressing up your pets for Halloween this year? We’d love for you to share your photos in the comments!
Fall is beautiful! I know we always regret when summer ends but the change in seasons is a lovely time of year. Do any of you have some gorgeous fall photos with your pets?
With Thanksgiving just around the corner here are a few tips to make sure your pets stay happy and healthy. We will be closed from Saturday October 10th until Tuesday October 13th at 8:30am. If you have an emergency at this time, please call (250) 962-7808. We hope you all have a safe and fun long weekend and can be as relaxed as Mozart is! Avoid fatty foods. Foods high in fat can cause a condition called pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is a painful condition that causes inflamm...ation of the pancreas. Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and lack of appetite. Bones. Turkey bones can cause internal blockages in your pets. They can also pose a choking hazard. Whether the bones are cooked or uncooked they can still be dangerous. Symptoms of an internal blockage can include vomiting, lethargy, and lack of appetite. Chocolate. Make sure to be careful about leaving chocolate where your pets cannot reach it. Chocolate can be toxic to dogs. Dark chocolate is more toxic than milk chocolate and it depends on how much your dog weighs and how much they ate to determine if it is a toxic amount. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, increased panting or restlessness. See more
