Making food from dandelions seems the rage right now. A lot of people will chuckle at this but ..... feel free to harvest the dandelion flowers at the garden! You can make jelly, tea, wine, fritters, salad. Let me know if you want recipes!

Looking for wood chips/shavings for the garden. If you have some in your workshop to get rid of please take them down. You can spread them anywhere between the boxes. Thank you!

Are you in need of wire tomato cages? We have a lot of them at the Community Garden. They are under and on top of the green wooden picnic table. Please help yourself and take as many as you need. You'd be doing us a big favour.

The garden rhubarb is almost ready to bolt!! Please come and pick some for your cakes and desserts. This will encourage the plant to put out more stalks. DO NOT put the leaves into the compost bin; they are poisonous and should not be composted. There is a wooden bin with a lid on it that is for weeds and rhubarb leaves. Thanks. Need help on how to harvest rhubarb? I'll send out a post.

Check if it is ripe: The first step is to make sure the plant is ready to be harvested. This is relatively easy to do. The best time to harvest is from spring to early summerusually April to June. HOW HOW TO HARVEST RHUBARB: Although they can be picked into early fall, you want to make sure that you stop collecting the yummy stalks well before the last frost, to help ensure that the plant makes it through winter. The best stalks to harvest should be at least 10 to 15 inc...hes long. You can keep harvesting from your plant, roughly 8 to 10 weeks, for rhubarb established more than four years and 1 to 3 weeks for less. Make sure to leave some stalksusually a third to near half of the plantto help your rhubarb recover. This way you can have a bountiful yield from the same plant for many years to come! How to harvest: Gently grab near the base of the desired stalk and slowly pull and twist. It is as simple as that! Sometimes the stalk may be resistant to break away and you might need a pair of gardening shears to help coax the stalk away from the base. Make sure to cut the leaves off the stalks and discard them; they are poisonous and should never be consumed. Credit: Horticulture magazine See more

Garden friends! Donald & I are sending out a challenge to YOU! Can a few of you pair up and out weed us? We’ve been visiting at the garden on Sundays and getting a little weeding done at a time. Do we have any garden members up for the challenge?!
