This month, HCC held its 4th annual Case Competition. 27 teams of students had 10 days to submit their presentation for a case centered around the impact of COVID-19 on small businesses. The top 5 teams moved on to the final round last week on March 13, presenting in front of firm representatives from RSM, EY, PwC, Deloitte, and McKinsey. Every year, we are continually impressed with the talent we see at this competition, and this year was no exception. Congratulations to the top 3 finalist teams for their immense achievement! Thank you to firm representatives Caitlin Vail, Sven Zhang, Ehsan Rahman, Natalie McVicar, and Briana Dologh for taking the time to provide valuable feedback to our competitors.

HCC is excited to present the second series of HCC Alumni Interviews titled Specializations & Technicals with the first episode with George Shang, a Strategy Analyst at Accenture, now live on our Youtube channel and website! This topic is meant to give students a better understanding of the value different degrees provide and how skills are transferable from their degree to the real world. Along with this we are looking to ask alumni what specific technical skills they use ...on a day to day, how they learned these skills, and how they recommend students practice or acquire these skills. George Shang graduated from the University of Calgary with a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in mechatronics in 2019. Along with being the Director of Engineering of the Haskayne Consulting Club, George was also a Vice President with the Engineering Students’ Society and a variety of other clubs during his time at school. Professionally, George currently holds the role of Strategy Analyst at Accenture in Calgary. In the past, he has also worked in the energy industry as an engineer and researcher. Two weeks ago, HCC had its biggest annual event - Consulting Night! Students had the opportunity to hear an amazing keynote presentation by Justin Petkau from Accenture, and network with firm representatives for the remainder of the night. Thank you to our partner firm representatives who gave their valuable time to be there. Without them, this event would not have been possible. The Haskayne Consulting Club (HCC) is inviting you to our Winter 2021 Kick-Off, where we will be introducing everything we planned for the semester - our consulting project line-up, case competition, events, and more! Kick-Off will take place on Thursday, January 21 from 6:00 - 7:15 PM MST on Zoom. We are happy to introduce the first episode of HCC’s inaugural Alumni Interview Series! The name of this first series is Steps and is meant to show students how past HCC alumni have found success in consulting! In this episode, Jr. Executive Luke Lumbard interviews Jarod Tsang. During his time at Haskayne, Jarod was very involved in student clubs like HCC and was a member of the DeNovo Student Fund. Over his professional career, Jarod has worked in a variety of industries and is now a consultant at Deloitte in its finance and performance practice!
