Meet Sue! @si_sue2 A woman in her 60's who can not be defined by age or road blocks. * Honestly, typing this is bringing back a whirlwind of coaching memories. Memories of triumph(her first assisted Muscle up, or her standing on the podium multiple times) Memories of defeat(to many to count) And memories of amazing conversations. *... We met 7 years ago, when we both joined the same gym. Deep down, Sue has impacted my life more than any other person I have trained. * She has taught me to be, compassionate, understanding AND hard headed(we disagree sometimes, but we always listen to each other) and that it's ok to go through tough times, but to just keep plugging along. * Sue's undying grit and determination should be an inspiration to everyone. Why do we Olympic Weightlift at Hatchet Athletics. Weightlifting is not just for weightlifters it is one of the most transferable training systems around! You will see benefits in your daily life, such as increased joint and bone strength, improved balance and stability, and mental confidence, among others. * Lifting objects from the floor and putting them over your head is a very basic and required skill for everyday life. Having a strong core, back, and legs will not on...ly benefit you in everyday life but make you stronger and healthier so you can enjoy your life more. * Now for the Geeky reason * There are two Olympic lifts, the clean and jerk and the snatch. Mastery of these lifts develops the squat, deadlift, power clean, and split jerk while integrating them into a single movement of unequaled value in all of strength and conditioning. These lifts train athletes to effectively activate more muscle fibers more rapidly than through any other modality of training. The explosiveness that results from this training is of vital necessity to every sport. Practicing the Olympic lifts teaches one to apply force to muscle groups in proper sequence, i.e., from the center of the body to its extremities (core to extremity). * Numerous studies have demonstrated the Olympic lifts unique capacity to develop strength, muscle, power, speed, coordination, vertical leap, muscular endurance, bone strength, and the physical capacity to withstand stress. It is also worth mentioning that the Olympic lifts are the only lifts shown to increase maximum oxygen uptake, the most important marker for cardiovascular fitness. Sadly, the Olympic lifts are seldom seen in the commercial fitness community because of their inherently complex and technical nature. We make them available to anyone with the patience and persistence to learn.
