It's National Siblings Day today but everyday is siblings day at Hat Trick Farms. . Today we had a break from each other, but when you work together everyday that is a good way to celebrate National Siblings Day too. . Quite often when we are out in the field or working in the office together there is a lot of laughing and joking going on.... . Don't get us wrong, we don't always see eye to eye and back in our childhood there were some royal rumbles, but in the end we are family and a team and we always seem to figure out a way when differences arise to work together. Thankfully those kind of days when we disagree are few and far between. . We are a team and we work together to do a lot of things. We have a picture that hangs on the office wall that says: "Family - in the harshest of situations, it's comforting to know there is always someone there for you." and that is exactly what we feel. . Whether we are making each other mad or laugh in the end we are siblings and we'll be there for each other. Thank goodness we are more often than not laughing around here. . #familyfarm #nationalsiblingsday #hattrickfarmsblenheim #siblingswhoworktogether #cdnag See more

The planting theme continues this week. We put some winterberries in the ground too. . We're hoping the water loving winterberries will like swampy spot at the back of the maple bush. . We sure hope so, because this will save having to irrigate...time will tell!... . #winterberries #hattrickfarmsblenheim #springonthefarm2021 #blenheimontario #onfarmexperiments See more

Our maple syrup shack becomes a workshop in the winter. . Through the winter we (mainly Dad) build the wood projects for spring flower season and winterberry workshops next November. . We reuse scrap wood accumulated around the farm all year and old tobacco pickets to make these wood projects. Often what we have available dictates what we build.... . Soon this workshop will transform again back to the boiling room for maple syrup season. See more

Happy Mail = New Flower Bulb Catalogue . We received the VanNoort spring bulb catalogue in the mail which shows all the new varieties of tulips and daffodils. . Even before this season's flowers are blooming we will be placing an order for 2022. Orders for bulbs are placed 10 months to a year before they will bloom. The bulbs we choose from this catalogue will arrive this coming fall so that we can plant them before the ground freezes.... . . #flowerfarming #tulips #daffodils #ckont #flowersfromourfarm #springblooms #hattrickfarmsblenheim www.hattrickfarms.ca

Winter sunset was beautiful tonight over Hat Trick Farms! It seems like the colder temperatures have also brought more spectacular colours at sunrise and sunset the past few weeks. Have you had a chance to take in a beautiful sunrise or sunset lately?

New Maple Syrup Jars for 2021 . The maple syrup jars we have been using have worked well but we wanted something that we could reuse somehow and also wanted our own label and not a generic one anymore. . Both new jars and new labels are ready to go for this coming maple season. We went with milk bottle style jars because although the jars cannot be reused for maple syrup due to regulations, we thought this style would be great as a vase for tulips and daffodils. Dad made us... some boxes out of old tobacco pickets that fit the new jars perfectly. . We can't wait to use returned jars for flowers in these boxes once spring flowers are blooming. Watch for details about jar return options coming later this month. . Kylie from Hub Creative Group is wonderful to work with and she brought our chicken scratches on paper (label vision) to life. It looks even more like a hockey puck than our logo, don't you think? We are excited to debut the new labels on the new jars once the 2021 maple season begins! . #mapleseason #maplesyrup #hattrickfarmsblenheim #ckont See more

Maple Glazed Doughnuts, yummy! . Paul & Julie were experimenting with maple recipes on the weekend and made these delicious maple glazed doughnuts. They were delicious! . Maple glaze would be good over cake, doughnuts or cinnamon buns...almost anything. I will post the recipe in the next post.... . Always joking with me, Paul saw this video and said "who eats a doughnut with a fork?". Only me I guess! Always good to make someone laugh. . What do you say: fork or no fork when eating doughnuts? #maple #maplesyrup #maplerecipes #familylaughs

Mother Nature has the best box of crayons! . No matter what you do you have busy times in the year and the fall season is definitely one of our busy times in the year. When the days are long and we're focused on our task the beauty that surrounds us can sometimes go unnoticed. . These pictures show a few of the wonderful examples of Mother Nature's art work that we had the opportunity to see this week. The pictures were taken in fields across southwestern Ontario where we we...re soil sampling. . 10 things about us! #M510things . We were challenged by @m5entrepreneurs and are definitely up for the challenge. The @m5entrepreneurs community is an amazing group, check out @fivemarysfarms for small business opportunities. . 1 We are the Warriner's, Lynne (center in photo), Nick (left), Paul (right), the first letters of our names in birth order are also in alphabetical order. ... . 2 The 3 of us are born within 4 years. So, we have always been close both literally and figuratively. Nick and I had the same teacher, a split grade class, 3 times in elementary school and Nick and Paul played on the same junior hockey team. . 3 The land that we own together as Hat Trick Farms was the first farm our grandfather bought when he began farming. . 4 Our first entrepreneur endeavour together was our pick your own strawberry stand in the late 1980's. . 5 Growing up the main crop on our family farm was dark fired tobacco. There are several tobacco farms in our area today and all of us like the smoke barn smell that fills the air around here every fall (similar to a campfire). It brings back great memories, because we all enjoyed tobacco harvest season. . 6 All 3 of us learned to skate on bobskates (2 blades), and could skate on our own on single blade skates by 2 years old. "Rink rats"! . 7 I would say none of us have a favourite season, but we all love living where the seasons change. Each season brings a new experience. . 8 Along with our farm, we own / operate 2 other business together. Warriner Ag is an agronomy services business and @kent_tent is a event rental company. . 9 We all knew how to drive a tractor before we were 10. I can't remember anyone running to get out of the way, but it must have been interesting for some of the people working at our farm during tobacco harvest to see a kid hop on a tractor to move the racks ahead. . We are a team! All decisions are made together. Yes, we have disagreements, we're siblings remember, but in the end we come together, each valuing each other's skills and what we each add to the team. . Thanks for getting to know us! . #M510things #familyfarm #hattrickfarmsblenheim #CKOnt #siblingswhoworktogether See more

Our first ever spring bulb orders are packed! . If you placed an order back in June, please check your email inbox for our note about pick up and delivery dates sent out today. . Growing spring bulbs started as a trial last fall and was expected to be a 3 year evolution to selling bulbs and cut flowers. With such an overwhelming response to our pictures of the plot last spring we decided what are we waiting for and we started selling bulbs on a small scale this year. We ...still have a lot of research and fine-tuning of processes to do but we have learned a lot this season and hope to learn more every season going forward. . Each bulb package this year has a drawing from the kids. They wanted to help and what better way than to draw a picture showing their rendition of what your bulbs will look like next spring. You can see a super cute example in picture 2. . We hope you enjoy growing spring bulbs in your garden as much as we have in our first year growing them on our farm! . Happy planting! ...it seems so odd to say that in the fall when most of our traditional crops are being harvested. #flowerfarming #tulips #narcissus #springbulbs #hattrickfarmsblenheim #farmingfamily #ckont

What a beautiful fall day! Even though we are not sure what the winterberry season will entail this year due to Covid-19 (details will be announced closer to harvest), we are still preparing to make arrangements to showcase our winterberries. . One of our favourite things to add into winterberry arrangements are dried flowers. Today was the perfect day to collect some Zinnias from the garden to dry.... LABOUR DAY was truly a labour day for many years at our farm. Growing up, dark fried tobacco was the main crop and late August through early September was tobacco harvest. This weekend I had to dig out an old tobacco axe to cut down some pig weeds that were past the pulling stage. Using that tobacco axe again reminded me of those good old days when 30 to 40 workers / friends would be around the farm for tobacco harvest. Mom and Grandma fed everyone 2 hot cooked meals everyda...y, as well as snacks at coffee breaks. We definitely worked hard but it was fun with a lot of camaraderie and joking around. Tobacco is no longer a crop we grow but the memories and friendships will last a lifetime. #familyfarm #tobaccoharvest #goodolddays #workhardplayhard #labourdaymemories

"Best day ever!" We are lucky to have helpers around here that put a whole new perspective on the jobs we are doing. Yesterday was a busy day of spreading mushroom compost on our wheat stubble to add nutrients for future crops. To some it is a continuous cycle of loading and spreading for hours on end. To them it was "the best day ever". Our little helpers ask a lot of interesting questions, see things from a different perspective and definitely make each day at Hat Trick Fa...rms the best for everyone. We were lucky to be involved from a young age and now are lucky to have them around asking "why" 100 times a day. Answering those "why" questions helps us see things from a new angle, and can sometimes lead to change or innovation when we really think about and answer their questions. Hat Trick Farms is proud to be a family farm. #familyfarm #bestdayeveryday #littlehelpers #blenheim #ontag
