Hairdresser Confession Time....... Most hairdressers are completely obsessed with their shears! We all have multiple pairs, and of course have favorites that we tend to use more than the other ones. Every one of them has a purpose... (at least that is what we tell ourselves when we purchase yet another pair! ) ... There are strait up regular shears, blenders, texture, swivel, offset, little bitty ones and long 7" babies like the one @jennhepphair is holding in the photo. Not to mention there are multiple types of razors, cutting combs (um ya, its a comb with a razor in it..... they can be disastrous if you think you are just using a normal old comb) clippers and trimmers! Our tools of the trade are one of our biggest investments and they are always being upgraded to something newer, better, or ones that will make your experience more enjoyable. Haven is celebrating its 4th Birthday!!!! Haven is grown more than I could have imagined in the past 4 years. The salon has seen lots of changes, especially in the last year. Sunderland Fall Fair 2020! Ok, so it doesn't look like any of us had hoped it would BUT, we have a challenge for you. Post a photo (or many photos!), of your favorite part of the fair! ... Today the parade would have started off at the school and made its way up Albert street, turning onto River street and then making its final turn onto Church street to end up in front of the grand stand. The firetrucks, the bagpipers, floats with children, the bands, the fair ambassadors, kids on bikes, people on horses... and spectators lined up the streets to see it all. The shows you would find all over the fair grounds would be... Light horse show (north east ball diamond) Heavy horse show (south ball diamond) 4-H Dairy (north west grounds) Poultry show (picnic area west of ball diamond) Rabbits (south picnic shelter) Craft demostrations (upstairs arena) 4-H Beef show (south west grounds) Junior Dairy Show (north west grounds) All Breeed Beef Show (south west grounds) 4-H Dairy Calf Show (north west grounds) Musical Entertainment (arena) and of course to end the day... the Demolition Derby! We may not be able to physically gather but there is one thing we know about our little village. We have an incredible sense of community. So dig out some of those old photos of past years at the fair, maybe you still have some on your phone from last year! Tonight my family and I would normally be making our way over to the fairgrounds for the opening night of the Sunderland Fall Fair! One of my most favorite events to go to every year! But, like everything else this year, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. We can't participate the same way we normally do... so I am suggesting that we do something a little different this year. In the comments, tell me your favorite fair story or post some of your fair photos! ... For those of you who have never attended the Sunderland Fair, here is was today would have looked like. During the day the entries would have been displayed, judged and placed. The children's crafts, school work, photos all on display in the middle of the arena floor for people to look at. The vegetables, crops and flowers proudly wearing their ribbons. The giant pumpkins are always a crowd favorite! Local vendors and groups are placed around the perimeter, some with displays, contests, or merchandise to purchase. The walls of the lobby and entryway of the arena would be covered in colouring contest entries. Upstairs you would find the baking, handmade blankets, quilts, carpentry, photography, and many more entries. All displayed beautifully. The Fair officially opens in the evening and you would find the antique cars and tractors, lawn tractor pull, horse pull, pet show and of course some live music as the events for the night. But the rest of the fun comes tomorrow! If you have some, post a Tuesday night photo of the fair. Do you ever wonder why your stylist tells you no sometimes? Especially when all you want is to blonde again? Sometimes blondes happen in one session and sometimes you have to take it slow and spread it over a couple of appointments..... so your hair stays on your head and not on the floor. It all depends on your hair history and what has happened before you get to your first session. ... Have you been blonde before? How long ago? How many times have you been light to dark to light? Was it done professionally or at home? What kind of products do you use at home? Your hair grows an average of a 1/2 inch a month, so that is 6 inches a year (on average, some are less some are more). If your hair is longer than your shoulders then it is more than a year old. Bra strap length could be 3 years old. Every time you colour your hair with permanent colour or lighten it, there is a chemical change that takes place. Even if you have gone back to your natural, the chemical change still exists in the hair strand. Do you remember every colour you have done for the last 3 years? Can you tell us your hair history? Insider secret, it will show up when lighten it. No matter what, the hair history will always come out. That is why we ask a million questions, and maybe why you can't get there in one session. We don't care if you touched up your roots at home, you needed a change so you put on a darker box dye, or tried a fashion colour that never quite faded out. We do care if your hair breaks off because we didn't know you were platinum a year ago, or if your at home products typically cause a chemical reaction resulting in chemical burns or fried hair. Especially if it is avoidable. So Gorgeous, if your stylist tells you that it is not going to happen today but you can get there over time... they are not telling you so they can kill your bank account balance, they are telling you so that your hair stays as healthy and as beautiful as the rest of you!
