Written Word Wednesday the other www Today I am sending out cards by local artist Paul Redchurch. The first will go to my father-in-law’s 93 year old sweetheart in Alberta. Sadly he passed away two years ago, but she is still a big part of our lives. They used to love going to Cattle Point together so I thought she would like this rendition of Paul’s. The second will go to a couple who I have known for 30 plus years and who are wonderful advocates for our Oak Bay community. Queens Park is close to where they live, so I know they will enjoy the card. Hoping you are thinking of participating in WWW.

Written Word Wednesday’s the other WWW - Who will join me? I’m looking to start a new trend. WWW. No not the World Wide Web (that’s been done already ), but Written Word Wednesday’s. This past year has been so consumed with doing things online Zoom meetings, Netflix, online games etc. It has made me cherish any handwritten note I have received. Anytime I go to the mailbox and find a card or note from a friend or family member it has brought a smile to my face. I... put it on display so that I can look at it every day and think of the person who sent it to me. That got me to thinking what a wonderful thing it would be to spread this feeling around if I loved receiving cards or notes in the mail and it brightened my day, then probably it would do the same for others as well. Hence Written Word Wednesday’s the other WWW. So I have decided that every Wednesday I am going to write one or two cards out and send them off to people. They will either be mailed or dropped off by hand, but I am going to commit to doing it every week no matter what. I’m going to try to use cards produced by local artists so that I can show support to them too lets face it we have some wonderful artists making gorgeous cards in Victoria! My first two cards are going to two new families who have just moved onto our street. I thought this (along with some of my homemade fudge) would be a great way to welcome them to the neighbourhood. The cards I have chosen are both by local artist Victor Lotto (https://victorlotto.ca/) and depict Uplands Park which seems fitting as it is just at the end of our street. If this idea resonates with you then I hope you will join me, bring a smile to someone’s face and brighten their day and who knows - Written Word Wednesday just might catch on! See more

Look who made the front page of the Times Colonist! It's Santa and Mrs. Claus!! They were helping to collect much needed food donations for the "Light Up the City Campaign". Normally we all would have brought our donations to the Lighted Truck Parade, but sadly it had to be cancelled due to Covid this year (along with the Santa Parade and many other things). So - if you have food to donate the campaign is continuing until January 3rd, so check out Greater Victoria Festival Society https://gvfs.ca/drop-off-your-donation/ to find out where to donate, or we do have food bins at The District of Oak Bay Municipal Hall too. Thanks to everyone for your generosity!!
