HBSCA Cycling Issues 28.01.2021

LETTER TO COUNCILLOR GRIMES JUNE 2018 The attached is a letter from the HBSCA to Councillor Grimes concerning signage on the trail in HBS Park. For two years, the HBSCA has been requesting basic signage for the trail (e.g., 20 kph, yield to pedestrians, slower traffic to side) signage that is capable of being read by high speed cyclists.... If you support the HBSCA’s position as set out in the letter (or part of it), please send an email to Councillor Grimes ("[email protected]"). If you do, we would appreciate you providing a copy to us at "[email protected]".

WOULD YOU NOTICE THE SPEED LIMIT? Last November, the HBSCA sent a letter to Councillor Grimes with regards to signage on the trail in HBS Park. As part of the response to our request for signage that sets out the speed limit, a photo rendering was attached. It provides examples of the proposed type of signage that would contain a posting of the 20 kph speed limit. Excerpts from the photo rendering are provided below. How many high speed cyclists passing through HBS wou...ld even notice the speed limit? For contrast, we have added a photo-shopped picture created by Eric Code (Example - potential sign, version 2). It reflects the type of signage we had in mind when we made the request for signs that set out the speed limit i.e., simple, clear and capable of being read by anyone passing by at 35 kph. The original November letter, the email response from Kim Edgar (Councillor Grimes' Chief of Staff) and our response to her email are set out in postings below.

SIGNAGE ON TRAIL LETTER TO MARK GRIMES On November 13, 2017 the HBSCA sent another letter to Councillor Mark Grimes concerning signage on the trail in HBS Park. A copy of the letter is posted below. The contents of the letter are consistent with past articles published in the following editions of Humber Happenings: Summer 2017 (pg. 13), Winter 2017 (pg. 4), Holiday 2016 (pg. 23), Summer 2016 (pg. 22) and Spring 2016 (pg. 20). At the end of three of these articles, people ...were invited to provide their comments. (Copies of Humber Happenings are posted on the HBSCA website hbsca.ca). The contents are also consistent with what has been posted on the HBSCA Cycling Issues facebook page (see below). On December 5, 2017 Councillor Grimes’ office sent an email stating: Councillor Grimes will be speaking with city staff regarding your letter and we will get back to you when we have unambiguous answers, per your request.
