Copied from a PSW Some people say PSWs don’t count as far as the CORONA VIRUS is concerned and it really struck a nerve!! It took me back to when a lady asked... me what I did for a living and I told her I was a PSW and she said Oh!, You’re JUST a PSW? I thought you were so much more than that! I often wonder why people have such a narrow mindset when it comes to PSWs. We are the foundation of the healthcare system... We know more about the patient than their own doctors!! We are JUST the first and last face the patient see throughout the day. We are JUST the people that feed them and dress them daily. We are JUST the people that assure them that they are safe when they forget where they are. WE are JUST the people that listen to all of their stories about their younger days. WE are JUST the people who most of the time work more than 80 hours in a two week period to take care of your loved ones. WE are JUST the people that get, hit, slapped, pinched, punched, spat on, yelled at, cursed at, get things thrown at us, or hair pulled when when YOUR family members are having behaviors that’s out of their control, in which, YOU could not handle! And when you can’t make it on holidays or their birthday.... We are JUST the people that hold them, comfort them, and wipe away their tears!! J - janitor - a person employed as a caretaker of a building. U - unicorn - someone that is highly desirable but difficult to find or obtain. S - Servant - a person that performs duties for others. T - therapist - a person who helps patients make decisions and clarify their feelings in order to solve problems. They also provide support and guidance. We are JUST a person that is all of these things in one!! So when I really think about it I guess she was right !!!! Lol We are ,JUST PSW's and I am very proud to wear that title!! Hope this uplifts someone!!! Never forget that we are a very important asset in healthcare!!
