History across three continents. The 75.47-carat Hooker Emerald was mined in Colombia in the 1500-1600s and taken to Europe by Spanish conquistadors. Sold to th...e ruling family of the Ottoman Empire, it eventually became part of its crown jewels. The emerald was snuck out to Paris along with other royal jewels (supposedly including the Hope diamond) when Sultan Abdul Hamid II was deposed in 1908.
