Heads Up Inspections 09.11.2020

Hi, Everybody. Don't forget to test your sump pumps on a regular basis. Ideally, a sump pump should be tested every two months. It's easy to remember by putting a reminder in your phone calendar. Testing a sump pump is simple. Submersible pumps usually have a ball float on the end of a cord. Just lift the ball. As it turns over, you should hear a click and the pump should start pumping water. Candlestick pumps have a ball float on a steel rod with rubber stoppers on the rod.... Lift the rod and it will push the switch to the on position. The pump should start pumping water. To shut off the pump, let the float or rod go, it will drop and shut off the pump. If your sump pump is not working, definitely replace it. A decent submersible pump can be bought for about $200. Fall is coming and, with it, there will be a lot of rain. Last week, over 2,000 homes in Windsor were flooded in a crazy rain event. I can't help wondering how many of them might have been spared if their sump pumps were working properly. Hope this helps. Tim.

Just a quick note to remind you to clean or replace your furnace filter. Furnace filters should typically be cleaned or replaced every 3 months. An easy way to keep on top of this it to put a reminder in your smartphone and have it repeat every 3 months. I have actually set mine to trigger on the first Saturday of every third month. Go ahead, throw the reminder in your phone (its easy). It is so easy to forget about the furnace filter and then you can end up wondering why your energy bill seems to be rising while your comfort levels in your home are decreasing. Good luck.
